Our Challenge
Dear friends:
In this weekend’s first reading, Peter, being filled with the Holy Spirit, would have everyone understand that the miracle of curing the cripple he had worked had been done in the name of Jesus, the Messiah. We also learn in this passage that God will overrule the devices and plans of wicked men to accomplish His own purposes. In our second reading this Sunday from the first letter of John, are words of encouragement to a community that is troubled by schism. One of the primary aims of 1 John is to persuade community members that they need to hold on to their confes-sion of faith because they have experienced its truth. In the gospel passage about the Good Shepherd, the mutuality of knowledge between the Father and the Son is mirrored in the relationship between the shepherd and the sheep. That relationship is further defined as one of love. Authority to lay down Jesus’ life is counterbalanced by Jesus’ authority to take his life up. The sending of the Son into the world by the Father is clear. The “other sheep” of John 10: 16 leaves the door open to the readers/hearers of the Gospel and also warns against any kind of exclusive claim on the door/shepherd Jesus. Deciding “who is in” and “who is out,” is not the business of the sheep and is a mystery to them. We sheep-folk are told only to cleave to Jesus, and to love and testify! Have a good week! Love and prayers, Father Randy
Holy Grill Monday through Friday, hot, nutritious lunches are prepared at the Interfaith Federation office
by Tonia Causey, transported to Cadillac St. Park, and served by volunteers from 20 faith com-
munities. Tonia has served as the Holy Grill cook and coordinator for 28 years! Her red beans and rice are famous!
Volunteers are needed to serve lunch at the Holy Grill Monday through Thursday and Friday, May 3
and 4. The Holy Grill is a program of the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge of which St
Aloysius Parish is a member. Meals are provided to needy persons at the BREC Center on Cadillac
Street from 11:45a.m. -12:30 p.m.

St. Aloysius Mission Trip Needs
YOU!!! June 4-11, 2018 St. Aloysius Church provides a safe and inexpensive opportuni-ty to reach out to people outside of the US and make a differ-
ence. The Nicaragua Mission trip opens the doors for people to share their gifts, whatever they may be. No special talents re-quired as this is not a medical mission. Cost is approximately
$600.
The trip is a 7 day trip to Managua, Nicaragua, with the purpose of carrying out our Catholic duties to operate not only on an
individual level but on a global and societal level for Jesus' mis-sion to engage directly with the poor, sharing compassion, love and service. This mission gives us the opportunity to experience the conversion of heart that is necessary to truly love one anoth-
er as God has loved us.
Join us in seeking together the common good and well being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable. We are one human fami-ly and this mission trip is the door to create relationships with some of your global family that God has given to us as a gift.

4th Annual St. Vincent de Paul “Fill Up the Truck(s)!” Drive
Huge Success!
A very special thank you for the outpouring of generosi-ty and joy of St. Aloysius parishioners as we ALL came together in faith and fellowship on Palm Saturday to fill up FIVE (5)!!!!! Thank you and God bless you for your kind heart. If you missed the “Fill Up the Truck(s)!” drive, SVdP will be glad to pick up large items (furniture) from your home through its pick up service. Church of Second Chances: A Faithful Exploration
of Incarceration
St. Aloysius Parish JustFaith Ministry is offering this JustMatters module (visit www.justfaith.org) that was written in collaboration with Jens Soering, someone on the “inside.” Church of Second Chances introduces the Catholic principle of restorative justice by sharing the stories of incarcerated people through interviews, docu-mentaries, presentations by experts, dialogue, and re-flection. The module addresses the following themes:
▪Exploring common misconceptions about people
in prison and how such misunderstandings have shaped our sense of responsibility
▪Considering the Church’s teaching on rehabilita-tion and restoration
▪Reshaping our lives, communities, and systems to offer us a second chance to embody God’s vi-sion of mercy, both for inmates as well as those of on the other side of the prison bars
The module consists of eight 2 ½-hour sessions and, depending upon the consensus of those parishioners interested, will be scheduled during May, June, and/or July. If interested and for more information please con-tact Thomas Telhiard at [email protected].
April 22, 2018 5 4th Sunday of Easter
The Bereavement Committee is in need of
volunteers who can assist the day of a funeral
for a couple of hours, usually in the morning.
Our parish uses the Parish Hall Kitchen dur-
ing visitation . We need someone to make
coffee, set out food and water. This simple
task is such a comfort to the families and is
greatly appreciated. For more information
please contact Kristy Roubique at 978-4820.
