I know that a lot of people are struggling right now. Financial and health concerns are at the forefront of most minds. Some of my friends who are young, healthy, and financially secure have expressed their primary concern this way: what should be my response as a Christian? What should I do? There are four things you can do in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and all the temporary restrictions: 1. You can stay at home. This may be the greatest sacrifice you make. You may not have the symptoms or ever get sick, but you could still be a carrier. Stay at home and save a life. 2. You can pray. Anyone can do this from any place. I know ninety-year-olds who can’t get out of bed on a regular basis, but pray for people around the world. There are plenty of people to pray for: medical professionals, first-responders, the elderly, missionaries, and the list goes on. 3. You can volunteer. This may seem to contradict number one above, but if you are young and healthy, you might consider helping in the effort. Even if you can’t leave your home, you can volunteer to call people or to make medical masks or to reach out on the computer. There are many ways to be a part of the solution. 4. You can be a good neighbor. You can call your neighbors and make sure they’re okay. If you are not high- risk, you can help them by picking up groceries or vital medications. Even a kind word can make all the difference in the world. I’m proud of you for being such a great church, and I can’t wait to see you again! I believe in this cultural moment we will see churches thrive! Historically speaking, it’s times like this the church has exploded with growth, not for growth’s sake, but because of the hope that believers give to others. I contend that in this moment we will see disciples being made in record numbers because they are not only free but also empowered to share this hope! Why my heart is so concerned with empowering you, is that you can transform a generation, literally. Now more than ever a generation needs a solid voice.
