Welcome to our Easter Newsletter. Inside you will find a wealth of fantastic information about life at The Carlton Academy over the last term. Thank you to everyone who has contributed articles.

The last term has, as always, been very busy with a huge amount of work done every day to help all students achieve their very best. All students have sat exams or undertaken formal assessments in class. Teacher assessment data shows that the progress of students continues to rise and we are so proud of the motivated young people we have the pleasure to teach every day.

Over the last few weeks, the first big step in our student leadership work has really taken off. It has been a privilege to see so many people stand for their College Council. I am looking forward to seeing the final results of nominations for College Captains and Vice Captains in the next few weeks. We want to give young people the chance to shine in all that they do; we are determined to introduce a wider range of student responsibilities as well as new opportunities for developing life skills such as debating, public speaking and a broader range of inter college events that parents can also attend. We shall also be introducing college based awards evenings to sit alongside the annual Excellence Evening. We hope you can take time to come and share the successes of our students and your children.

I would like to thank you all for the outstanding attendance of parents at events such as parents‘ evenings, options evening and the recent ‗Make it Count‘ event for Years 11 to 13. We want to give you every opportunity to meet with us on a regular basis, and shall be looking to extend this further next year.

I am delighted to be able to share with you the fact that we shall be an

oversubscribed school again next year in relation to applications for Year 7. I am looking forward to seeing our next intake of students in their primary schools and at The Carlton Academy in the summer term. In addition, I have the pleasure of sharing with you the fabulous news that we have been successful in bidding for money from the Department for Education to improve our dining facilities. The award of £750,000 will allow us to transform our kitchens, dining rooms and make huge improvements and additions to that area of our school. I am delighted to have received this funding which I believe is both fully deserved and essential for our growing school.

Inside this newsletter you will find information about the small changes to our uniform; you should have already received a letter in relation to this. I fully appreciate that the words ‗change‘ and ‗uniform‘ can cause some anxieties; however, I really do hope that you see the many benefits of these small tweaks to help us all.

At the end of this term, we say goodbye to Mrs Dillon in English and Ms Pyne in PE. I would like to thank them for their hard work and especially thank Ms Pyne for her fantastic contributions to the Academy.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition. Please take a moment to look at it with your child, perhaps they are mentioned or took part in some of the fantastic events that you will read about. With very best wishes for Easter and the summer term ahead.

Uniform Update

From September 2015, The Carlton Academy uniform will be slightly changed. The changes are:

We will be changing the colour of trousers and skirts to grey instead of black. Girls have the option to wear trousers or skirts as is the case now

All trousers and skirts will have The Carlton Academy logo embroidered on them at hip level We will expect all students to wear only trousers or skirts embroidered with our logo – no other trousers

or skirts will be accepted in school The new trousers and skirts can be purchased from our uniform supplier Just Schoolwear. Students

who we feel may not be wearing the correct trousers and skirts will be politely asked to show The Carlton Academy logo to ensure consistency and clarity

If you are planning on purchasing a new skirt or trouser for school then you are able to purchase the new style from Just Schoolwear from Monday 6 April 2015 onwards. We are very happy for students to continue to wear the current black trousers or skirt right until the end of the summer term and have no expectation that they wear the new style before September.

Why are we doing this? We wish to support all families in ensuring that the uniform they buy is in line with our uniform policy. Regretfully, many uniform suppliers have different styles of trousers and skirts, many of which we have to challenge on a daily basis. Issues such as fashion logos, tight fitting trousers, especially for girls and buttons and zips which stand out are all features of what many shops sell as 'school uniform' but which are not acceptable to us. We do not wish to create tension between school and home and find it very unhelpful to everyone when we have to tell parents that what they have purchased is not in line with our expectations.

Blazers As some parents have noticed, The Carlton Academy logo changed earlier this year to bring it in line with other Academies within the Redhill Trust. From now on, all blazers sold by Just Schoolwear will have the new logo embroidered on them. We do not require students to change their blazer as we expect this to happen naturally over time and I am more than happy for students to wear blazers with the old logo for the lifetime of their blazer.

Quick Questions and Answers Q: Can I wear my current black trousers and skirt to school until the end of July?

A: Yes.

Q: Do I need to have the new trousers and/or skirt for the start of the term in September?

A: Yes.

Q: Can I carry on wearing my blazer if it has the old logo on it? A: Yes of course. The uniform shop is now selling only blazers with the new logo on it but you don’t need to change it. You will have a new logo

blazer when you next buy a new blazer.

Just School-wear contact details: Address: 12 High Street, Arnold, NG5 7DZ Telephone: 0115 9261728 Website: http://www.just-schoolwear.co.uk

Just School-wear will be holding pop up shops in school on Tuesday 23 June between 3pm and 6pm in

the main school, and on Wednesday 12 August between 10am and 2.30pm in the theatre.

Medication in School

We are aware that there are times when students need to take medication to manage either a short term or longer term condition. We would ask that you check the information below very carefully please to ensure that we work together to support all young people at all times. In 2014, the DfE issued updated statutory guidance on the managing of medications in school and supporting students with medical conditions. Following the guidance and some recent work in school, the following important information needs to be shared:

1. All students with long term medical conditions, known to the school, will be asked, with support from parents and medical professionals, to complete an Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP). This is an on-going area of work at this time. Should your child have any long term medical conditions, which require support in school, it is important that you let Mrs Thompson (student receptionist and first aider) know

2. Once implemented, the IHCP will be reviewed annually or as and when required to do so if a change in any medical condition occurs

3. All long term medication, prescribed by a medical professional and which is necessary to be taken in school hours, will be stored securely at student reception and only administered by a qualified member of staff

4. The school can only accept prescribed medications that are in date, labelled and provided in the original container as dispensed by a pharmacist. This must include instructions for administration, dosage and storage. Parents have a responsibility to bring medication into school as it cannot and will not be accepted from students.

5. When a student has an ailment that is not a long term condition, the school cannot and will not give the student prescription or non-prescription medicines without their parent‘s written permission.

6. We ask that you do not send your child to school with prescription or non-prescription drugs without informing Mrs Thompson first.

7. It is a concern when students carry medication, prescribed or non-prescribed and self-administer in school and this should not happen.

Your support in following this guidance is much appreciated.

2015 Business Challenge

Following on from last year‘s success, The Carlton Academy sent a team of six talented linguists to the regional Business Challenge, held in February at the Nottingham Girls‘ High School. This time, teams were split so that no single school made up a team.

After a very challenging day using their French and Spanish skills to produce and present a business idea to local business representatives, we are proud to announce that Ellie Fretwell and Aimee Richards were part of the winning team. A special mention also to Theone Ellis who was given an outstanding leadership award.

A huge well done to all who took part this year:- Ellie Fretwell, Aimee Richards, Theone Ellis, Brett Curwood, Elliott Frier and Jed Brandreth.

Sixth Form Mentoring in Mathematics

Mathematics students from The Carlton Academy Sixth Form have volunteered to develop their tutoring and coaching skills by acting as mentors to students from Year 11. The aim is to support a number of Year 11 students achieve their target grades. The Sixth Form mentors are scheduled to meet with their mentees on a weekly basis during a selected tutor time appointment where they provide one-to-one support and help with completing examination style questions. Short periods of focused, individual practical study have been demonstrated to result in significant improvements in exam performance and this is one of many intervention strategies that are taking place within the department on the run up to the GCSE exams this summer.

A huge thank you to the Sixth Form mentors for volunteering to give up their time in this way to help students lower down the school to improve achievement, they deserve congratulating:-

Shannon Smith, Francis Glynn-Matthews, Matthew Clarke, Camren Benjamin, Elizabeth Fox, Karl Chambers, Hannah Barker, Lewis Trinder, Kurtis Wray, and Connah Miniello.

Social Science Taster Day Nottingham Trent University

All Year 12 students studying Psychology and Sociology from Carlton and Hall Park Academies were given the opportunity to attend a Social Science taster day at the Nottingham Trent University. Students were able to choose four lectures to attend during the day, ranging from Youth Studies and Criminology to International Relations and Equestrian Psychology!

The day gave students the chance to speak to Student Ambassadors and to ask them about what life is really like as a student. They were also given a guided tour of the city centre campus and were able to see the student library, union and even got to see some halls of residence. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and many left even more excited about attending and aspiring to university!

Science Stars

There are many pupils who work hard in their Science lessons but the pupils listed below have stood out this

half term for their hard work and dedication. They are our Science Stars. Congratulations to:

Health and Social Care

The Sixth Form students studying Level 3 courses all completed their mandatory block placement work experience week in February. Two of the students have described their experiences:-

For my work placement I went to Westdale Infants School. The role I was asked to take on was to run a number of activities and support the children, fairly similar to the work of a teaching assistant. During the break times I went out into the playground and played football with some of the students, and ran some activities for the children to play. Throughout the week I ran activities to develop the class's numeracy and literacy skills as well as their creative skills. This links to the career I want to do as I wish to work with children and help them develop their fundamental skills for their futures.

Liam Gee, Year 12

For my placement I went to Lowater Street Day Nursery. I chose this for placement as I want a career working with children and I thought it would be a great experience, and I could see whether or not I enjoyed it and if I still wanted to pursue a career in this area. Whilst I was there I took on the role of a staff member. I wasn‘t confident at first but after I got the hang of it I soon picked it up. The role I had was to help the children get ready for when they go up to infant school in September. Whilst I was at placement there were two groups of children at the day nursery. There was a morning group and an afternoon group. On some days the afternoon group had some of the same children in the morning. This then allowed me to get to know the children better as seeing them twice a day allowed me to be able to talk to them a bit more. I knew some of the children already that were going to the day nursery and I thought this would act as a problem. However this wasn‘t a problem at all and it helped me as I could then talk to the child and she could introduce me to the other children which then allowed me to get a good knowledge of the children‘s names. Whilst I was at placement I felt like a real member of staff as, in the morning when children were arriving, they went through the register and then they would go through the staff and the children would mention me. Overall I really enjoyed my time at Lowater as when I was finishing on the last day, all of the children made me a big card which I now have hanging up at home. This made me feel overwhelmed with emotion because it made me feel as though they really appreciated me being there and enjoyed having me. Now when I leave my house whether it‘s to go to the shop or anywhere along Carlton Hill there‘s always a child that recognises me which makes me want to go into working with children even more than before. I think it was a great experience and I would definitely do it again.

ECO DAY: Year 12 Visit to Nottingham Trent University

On Friday 6 February, the Year 12 students spent all day at Nottingham Trent University where they gained

valuable support in their UCAS application process and met current undergraduates studying for their

degrees. The day was a huge success and created a real buzz amongst our students. They are now getting

stuck into drafting out personal statements, researching courses and considering their priorities for 2016.

ECO DAY: Year 13 Learning to Live Independently

Year 13 spent the day in school learning a series of essential skills linked to ‗Living Independently‘. The day

covered:

Cooking from scratch, budgeting and nutritional value ‗Jamie Oliver‘ style

Student Finance and how to apply for it

Personal finances: credit cards, loans, student accounts, savings, dangers of Pay Day loans and

overdrafts

Student accommodation services: how it works and issues that might arise

The Great Debate: learning how to debate formally with The Nottingham University Debate Society

Carlton Academy’s enterprising ‘ECO day’ students going to finals in national

competition

The Carlton Academy has hosted a massive ‗ECO day‘ (Enriching Curriculum Opportunities) preparing students for opportunities and experiences both at school and in later life.

The ‗ECO day‘ programme at The Carlton Academy is designed to cover the curriculum areas of careers guidance, enterprise, citizenship, sex and relationships education, and personal, social and health education in an innovative and interactive programme. Each session was tailored to the students‘ stage and age at school and included acting workshops, design competitions, a visit to the Galleries of Justice and The Space Centre, careers advice and planning for university.

One exciting aspect of the day was a competition run by the ‗National Enterprise Challenge‘ in which students entered a contest to design a new attraction for Alton Towers. One team of students from The Carlton Academy will now go on to the finals with ‗Dragons Den‘ star Theo Paphitis who is the proud Ambassador for the venture. The competition encourages cross curricular skills and students had to design the attraction, budget and plan marketing strategies, and project running costs. The group that came top of the bunch at The Carlton Academy called their attraction ‗Delta‘ and will now go onto the finals and pitch their ideas along with 160 other entrants from around the UK.

Other workshops on the day included a visit by respected Nottinghamshire actors from ‗The Pint Size Theatre‘ who explored matters of online ESafety. Also Year 11 students also took part in subject ‗Masterclasses‘ and explored techniques for coping well during the up and coming exam season when The Carlton Academy anticipate gaining their best results ever.

The Carlton Academy has three ‗ECO days‘ each year to broaden pupils‘ curriculum experiences beyond the classroom. The latest ECO day was co-ordinated by Laura Sharpe, Assistant Head at the Carlton Academy, ―The day has been a tremendous success. Each year group from year 7 to 13 has a different focus for the day. Pupils learned about enterprise, relationships, democracy and independence. We welcomed the ‗National Enterprise Challenge‘, ‗Pintsize Theatre Company‘ and Nottingham Trent University into school. The variety of activities provided all of our students with unforgettable experiences and contributed to a very exciting atmosphere around the school. The day would not have been possible without the hard work and enthusiasm of the staff at the Carlton Academy and the many visitors and volunteers who supported the day. The students very much enjoyed the opportunities and are looking forward to the next ECO day in July.‖

Finalists in the National Enterprise Challenge from The Carlton Academy are team ‗Delta‘; Lydia Proudlove, Ryan Williams, Ellie Fretwell and Charlotte Rowley. They will now go onto to the finals with host Theo Paphitis held later this year.

Schools Games County Finals

A massive well done to the students who represented Gedling in the Nottinghamshire Schools Games Finals on Thursday 26 February at Nottingham University. The students participated in a number of Sports Hall Athletics events including shot putt, long jump and sprinting races. The boys finished in third place overall.

The girls team were:- Beth Lawman, Freya Rook, Melanie Fewkes, Olivia Colley and Jessie Cooper.

The boys team were: Sam Townhill, Dennis Oezcan, Jack Dalton, Calrick ‗CJ‘ Dunkley, Elijah Johnson and Daniel Fewkes.

The Tri-Ac Games

On Thursday 5 and Thursday 26 February 2015, the first ever Tri-Ac (Three Academies) Games were held at Redhill Academy. This was the first of two annual competitions to be completed. The February fixtures were held as Winter Games event. The second will be held later in the year as Summer Games events and the results of both will determine who is this year‘s Tri-Ac Games winner. The three schools involved were the Carlton Academy, The Redhill Academy and Hall Park Academy.

The competition was held for students in Years 7 to 9 and Year 10 over two nights and the competition was fierce.

In the Years 7 to 9 event, netball had to be cancelled due to poor weather. The other three events were tag rugby, handball and table tennis.

In handball, Redhill Academy came in first place, while Hall Park and The Carlton Academy came in second and third places respectively.

Table tennis was split into boys and girls. The boys at Redhill won, with Hall Park second, and The Carlton Academy third. The girls at Redhill also won, and The Carlton Academy were second.

Tag rugby followed suit with the Redhill students in first place, however The Carlton Academy students were awarded second place, with Hall Park students in third place.

Redhill were overall the dominant force in the competition, leaving The Carlton Academy in second place at the end of the evening.

In the Year 10 competition, it was a different story with The Carlton Academy dominating the evening.

In handball, The Carlton Academy students won, while Redhill and Hall Park took second and third place.

In Netball, Hall Park students came first, Redhill second, and The Carlton Academy third.

The boys table tennis game resulted in a tie between The Carlton Academy and Redhill, while The Carlton Academy girls won and Redhill took second place.

Finally in tag rugby, Redhill won, and The Carlton Academy came in second place.

The Year 10 results meant that, overall, The Carlton Academy won the competition. Adding that to the previous evening and the Years 7 to 9 games events, The Carlton Academy are in second place going into the Summer Games.

A massive well done to everyone who took part and let‘s make sure we win the Summer Games!

Years 7 to 9 Summer Games take place on Thursday 2 July 2015, and the Year 10 Summer Games take place on Thursday 16 July 2015. All events are between 4pm and 6pm at Redhill Academy.

Basketball

It has been another successful year for The Carlton Academy basketball teams. This year there were five teams entered into the Gedling Basketball Tournaments. This consisted of three male teams for Years 7 to 11, and two girls teams for Years 7 to 9. All teams gained success and made progress, especially with the Year 7 teams, most of whom had never played a competitive game of basketball before. There was some frustration when every team finished in second place! So close, yet so far to representing Gedling at the County finals.

We are hoping to gain some support from the British Basketball League for next year. We would like to develop a ‗Basketball Academy‘ with more coaches coming to support the staff and students. This is the club that still holds the record of 54 students one night attending. Hopefully more students will get interested in the game of basketball and be a part of something really special next year. It is many thanks from everyone at the PE department for everyone‘s efforts this year. We are all hoping we gain at least one Gedling title next year and move onto competing with the best the County has to offer!

Handball

The Year 11 handball team remains undefeated in all competitions, which is an amazing achievement. The North Nottinghamshire tournament in February saw them beat Retford Oaks, Tuxford and Ashfield Schools to place first with some brilliant passages of play and excellent teamwork.

It has been a pleasure to teach this group of students who have been the most successful sporting team we have seen at this school. We are currently rewarding the students with their own personal handball jerseys and new handball goals for the school. Their final match will probably be their hardest yet when they take on the Academy staff!

The Year 11 team are:- Earl Bernard, Ben Goodwin, Sam Hands, Charlie Goodman, Jethro Jenkinson, Ethan Hardy, Aidan Handley, Antonio Vocaturo, and Josh Plumridge.

Earl Bernard has made it all the way to the U16 England National Handball Squad. Earl has been the perfect role model for the younger students he coaches along with Ashley Voce. Earl has worked extremely hard and remained focussed enough to reach the highest standard.

The Year 10 team followed in the footsteps of the successful Year 11 team. These students just missed out in the School Games Finals, losing 4-3 to Rushcliffe School in the final. Having won through the Gedling area competition they topped the group in the finals but narrowly missed out on the ultimate prize. Great effort!

The Year 10 team are:- Nathan Topham, Elliott Frier, Kai Brace, Hassan Ali, Josh Plumridge, Nathan Hodgkinson, Ben Allsopp-Wood, Ben Brooks, Ben Harwood, and Josh Charles.

The girls in the team are:- Amy Vernon (Captain), Evie Seadon, Georgia Feghali, Jessie Cooper, Alice Fisher, Freya Rook, Beth Lawman, Melanie Fewkes, Sam Tyler, and Abbie Moon.

Cake Sale Fund-Raiser

Sixth Form students put their aprons on and made cakes, popcorn and other goodies to sell to the rest of the school to help raise additional funds for their end of year Sixth Form Ball, taking place at the Hilton Hotel in July this year. Those that didn‘t bake brought in items to sell. They raised a total profit of £43 during break and lunchtime.

Author inspires Carlton Academy students

‘Language is power!’

An author who has written 79 books has visited The Carlton Academy to inspire students to become avid readers and creative writers.

Steve Bowkett, author of The Wintering Trilogy, Double Darers and Spellbinder books amongst others held workshops with students to explore how stories are created and what inspired him to start writing as a 13 year old.

Speaking of his own passion for literature, Steve told students why an interest in reading can help students no matter what career path they choose. ―Being able to read

well, speak articulately and write clearly opens up all kinds of opportunities.‖

Student Trinity Hargreaves in Year 7 took part in the classes and said it was educational, and funny. "Meeting Steve Bowkett was really fun. It was really cool to meet a real author and he was really funny too.‖

Mr Bowkett said that going into schools and sharing his story and knowledge with students was an invaluable part of his career. ―I see school visits as an essential part of my work as a writer. Not only are telling stories and running writing workshops great fun, but a visit allows me to help the children understand that language is power.‖

Richard Pierpoint, Head Teacher at the Academy said, ―The opportunity for students to work with an author; hearing his journey and sharing his inspiration is an invaluable opportunity. Showing young people that we can all be creative, imaginative writers is always a great thing and I know everyone who took part was able to take away new skills and ideas.‖

Art Department is a Winner: Sophie West

Nine local young people have had their artistic images displayed to millions of people after winning a digital photography competition in December, one of which was our Sixth Form student, Sophie West. She didn‘t realise she was a winner until she had actually visited the exhibition. Sophie said: ―I study photography and it‘s great to have your work recognised.‖ Eight of the winner‘s photographs went on display on boards around Wollaton park and are likely to remain there forever! The exhibition ran daily alongside the winners of the Nottingham in Bloom Competition in Wollaton Hall‘s Courtyard Gallery until the end of January.

Year 12 Work Experience

The Carlton Academy has a growing and successful Sixth Form and this year, we are encouraging all Year 12 students to undertake one week at a work experience placement as part of their studies, in preparation for university and their future careers. We believe this week to be invaluable in preparing students for the world of work. The chosen week for work experience is Monday 8 June to Friday 12 June 2015.

Work experience has many benefits for both students and employers. It provides students with the opportunity to explore the real world of employment, and helps them develop lifelong personal and social skills while they complete their studies. It benefits employers by preparing potential employees for future employment, promotes and raises awareness of apprenticeships, raises the employers profile within the community, creates positive reinforcement and provides employers with an extra pair of hands to support existing staff in the short term. Sixth Form students are responsible for researching their own placements, providing them with valuable experience in the job application process, including letter and CV writing.

The UCAS Journey

All applicants in The Carlton Academy Sixth Form have now received offers from their chosen universities. They have submitted their firm and insurance choices which means they are free to apply for Student Finance and put their accommodation applications in place. This is an extremely exciting time for our students as they begin to see their futures ahead of them. As they now focus on preparing for their A-Level exams and completing final assignments for the BTECs, they are even more motivated by having received university offers. Moreover, our Year 12 students have begun researching their own UCAS journeys and are considering where they might choose to apply this coming autumn. We are very proud of our students for having such academic aspirations; their lives will no doubt be further enhanced through Higher Education.

Gifted and Talented Art — Tuesday 27 January 2015

This year‘s event focused on the art of pottery. Approximately 45 students aged between 4 and 11 took part in the event. The young artists were encouraged to work in teams to construct a clay tile which, when all placed together, formed a large representation of a famous surreal image (based around this year‘s Family of Schools Exhibition theme 'DREAM'). They experimented with processes and techniques to form wonderfully crafted tactile creations. The tiled pieces were then returned to schools to add finishing touches with colour. The students from Carlton Central Infants and Juniors, Westdale Infants and Juniors, Haddon, All Hallows, Netherfield, Stanhope, Porchester and Standhill performed exceptionally well during the event, enjoying creating possibilities with clay. A number of our budding A-Level artists assisted in the workshop event and helped the students to explore and develop creative ideas.

Family of Schools Art Exhibition

The opening event for The Family of Schools annual Exhibition, this year titled ‗Dream‘ took place on Monday 9 March. It went superbly well and was well attended. Many representatives from contributing feeder schools, along with students of all ages and their families, attended to celebrate the work and efforts of all.

There are some truly wonderful artistic creations; a fabulous display of imaginative ideas and creative use of media. We wish to commend all the students who have submitted work for the Family of Schools Exhibition. It is a stunning show full of wonder, with submissions from foundation years right through to Year 13. We have some amazingly talented young people amongst our community and we are really proud of their artistic achievements and progress. Very well done to all the students from The Carlton Academy, and those from our surrounding feeder schools: Carlton Central Juniors, Porchester Juniors, Standhill Infants, Haddon Primary, Westdale Juniors, Netherfield Juniors, Stanhope Primary and All Hallows Primary. Pictured is Erin Bailey-Russell in Year 8, standing next to her outstanding personal response to the Pop Art project which was deservingly awarded a level 7c.

The exhibition is open daily Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm, and will remain open until

Friday 22 May 2015

Year 11 Art Trip to London

As part of their curriculum, Year 11 students who are studying for an Art and Design (Fine Art, Art Graphics or Photography) GCSE qualification have an opportunity to go to London and visit a selection of galleries. Each year the trip is tailored to help the students with the development of ideas, in particularly with their final examination project which allows for a more personal approach. As well as being a very pleasant day out,

inspiration is gained from viewing the works of past and present artists, crafts people and photographers.

The trip on Thursday 22 January was a huge success and all students were wonderful, proudly representing The Carlton Academy. We visited Tate Modern, The National Gallery and The Portrait Gallery and even got to see and listen to a speech by Turner Prize-winning artist Greyson Perry. The trip involved much walking to take in the glorious sites along the Thames. We even managed to spend some time around Covent Garden where the students enjoyed watching the street artists perform.

The art department would like to say how very proud they are of everyone who took part.

Artists of the Month January: Years 7 and 8

Year 7 drawing skills are certainly developing. Great observational work, matching angles, shapes and detail well. These tonal studies show good control and consideration to gradients of tone to achieve a 3D finish. Work on show by Hany Kirkby, Megan Quilty, Thomas Gregson and Charlotte Etches.

Year 8 final responses to the Pop Art project are just awesome, demonstrating confident understanding and creative use of materials, processes and the formal elements, combining these thoughtfully. They have exhibited their learning well with these imaginative pieces of art. Very well to you all. Work on show by Stephanie Dalton, Rebecca Sansom, Maria Sanchez, Jamie Charles, Safiya Bennett-Parker, Molly Ingle, Maddison Etches and Brogan O‘Reilly.

Artists of the Month February: Year 9 Photography students

Year 9 are really enjoying the GCSE Photography course, getting to grips with camera handling and developing skills with image manipulation via Photoshop. Take a look at these stunning edits which show great artistic skill with consideration to composition and creative use of layers and filters. Beautiful work on show by Amaia Robertson-Nogues, Ben Colley, Charlotte Marriott and Chloe Radford.

Artists of the Month March: Years 9 and 10

It was the first time this year that the Year 9 and 10 Artists, Graphic Designers and Photographers sat a mock examination. They were to complete a creative response that exhibited their learning and skill development with imaginative use and application of media. Just take a look at this set of truly wonderful outcomes by a selection of the students. Work on show by Kacper Neckar, Kadee Denham, Patryk Parkosz, Donnie Beswick-McCabe, Penny McCalman and Kirsty Higham exhibits great thought regarding layout, balance and quality finish with clear connections to the works of artists studied.
