April 16, 2017 | Sanctuary Service | 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. | Easter Sunday
Prelude “Toccata on Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” David Stultz,
arr. Diane Bish organ
“Rise Now, My Heart, with Gladness” Johann Gruger, 1649
arr. Alinda Cooper
Awake, my heart, with gladness, see what today is done;
Now, after gloom and sadness, comes forth the glorious sun.
My Savior there was laid where our bed must be made
When to the realms of light our spirit wings its flight.
The foe in triumph shouted when Christ lay in the tomb;
But lo, he now is routed, his boast is turned to gloom.
For Christ again is free; in glorious victory
He who is strong to save has triumphed o’er the grave.
“A Joyful Alleluia” Cynthia Dobrinski
“An Easter Symphony”
LASST UNS ERFREUN; arr. Milton Rusch
Welcome and greetings Jared Huffman, associate pastor

Call to confession
Silent prayers of confession
Assurance of God’s pardoning grace taken from Romans 8 and 2 Corinthians 5
If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but
gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us
all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? continued
It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—
more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also
interceding for us. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
* Hymn of assurance “Alleluia, Alleluia! Hearts to Heaven”
ODE TO JOY
Alleluia, alleluia! Hearts to heaven and voices raise:
sing to God a hymn of gladness, sing to God a hymn of praise;
he who on the cross a victim for the world’s salvation bled,
Jesus Christ, the King of Glory, now is risen from the dead.
Alleluia, Christ is risen! Death at last has met defeat:
see the ancient powers of evil in confusion and retreat;
once he died, and once was buried: now he lives forevermore,
Jesus Christ, the world’s Redeemer, whom we worship and adore.
Christ is risen, we are risen! Set your hearts on things above:
there in all the Father’s glory lives and reigns our King of Love;
hear the word of peace he brings us, see his wounded hands and side;
now let every wrong be ended, every sin be crucified.

Offertory “I Have Overcome the World” Chancel choir Music by Dan and Heidi Goeller Text adapted from John 16:33, Psalm 60:12, Romans 8:35-37, Deuteronomy 31:6, and 1 John 5:4-5
In this world you will have trouble. In this world you will have strife.
In this world you will have sorrow. In this world you will have pain.
Does God no longer love us? Do we face these trials alone?
With God we gain the victory, through the love of Christ.
Take heart! I have overcome the world. Take heart! I have overcome the world.
Be strong and courageous! Do not fear. For the LORD your God goes with you.
Take heart! I have overcome the world. Take heart! I have overcome the world.
Be strong and courageous! Do not fear. Take heart! I have overcome the world.
Every child of God overcomes the world. This victory is won by our faith.
Only those who believe that Jesus is God’s Son can overcome the world.

Isaiah 65:17-25
17“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be
remembered, nor will they come to mind. 18But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will
create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. 19I will rejoice over
Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be
heard in it no more. 20Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or
an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a
mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. 21They will build
houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22No longer will
they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree,
so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. 23They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a
people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. 24Before they call I will
answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. 25The wolf and the lamb will feed
together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent’s food. They
will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the LORD.
Sermon Notes
“From Resurrection to New Creation” Isaiah 65:17-25
Jesus’ resurrection ushers in: 1. a new creation—all of creation will be made whole. (vv. 17, 25) 2. a new community—our identity and our relationships will be healed. (vv. 18-20, 24) 3. a new calling—our lives will finally be fruitful and never frustrating. (vv. 21-23) Big Idea: What began Easter morning with Jesus’ resurrection comes to
fulfillment in a new creation, a new community, and a new calling.
