Manly Problems Landon has always admired his father. His father is the
smartest, bravest, and biggest lion he knows and Landon couldn’t
wait to be just like him. Landon especially admired his dad’s mane
because it is made up of dark brown hair that glistens in the sun.
Landon would watch for his own mane in the reflection of the water
every day, hoping and waiting to see some hair.
As Landon got older, he still didn’t have any hair. Every night
he would dream of having his own mane and standing next to his dad. He wanted a mane more
than anything else in the world, yet nothing he tried gave him hair. His friend, Mr. Monkey, told
him to eat more green leaves. Landon did this for a week, but his hair didn’t grow. His friend,
Mr. Jaguar, told him to run around for ten minutes a day. Landon did this for a week, but his
hair didn’t grow. Finally, his friend, Mr. Giraffe, told Landon to roll around in the dirt every day.
Landon did this for a week, but his hair still didn’t grow. Landon went home every night tired,
dirty, and discouraged that his hair may never grow. Landon was so tired from trying to grow
his mane that he slept for a week straight.
On the seventh day, Landon finally woke up as he could hear his parents whispering
about something. He knew it had to be important and as he opened his eyes, he noticed his
parents looking at him. As Landon shook his body, he felt something swish past his face. He
took one look at his parents and he knew that while he was sleeping, his mane had started to
grow. When he looked in the water at his reflection, he saw the same beautiful, dark hair that
his dad has and he watched it glisten in the sun. Who knew that all Landon had to do to get his
mane was to sleep?

Walking Tall One day, Gerald and Jenny Giraffe welcomed a little baby boy into the
world. With all of their friends and family around, little Gino opened his eyes
for the very first time. From then on, baby Gino was always surrounded by
other giraffes who taught him how to walk, talk, and eat. But one day, Gino
wandered away from his family and met a family of Kangaroos. When Gino
first saw them, he watched them hop around from one place to the next and saw them eating
leaves from nearby trees. Gino had never seen animals like this before and he wondered why
they did not have brown spots and long necks.
After watching the Kangaroos for a while, Gino decided to talk to them. He saw a little
Kangaroo nearby so Gino came out from behind the bush. When the little Kangaroo saw Gino
coming, he stopped eating and started laughing at him. “What is wrong with his neck?” the little
Kangaroo said to his mother. The little Kangaroo’s mother told her son to be quiet and called
Gino closer to them. With his head hanging low, Gino walked over to the Kangaroos. The
mother Kangaroo explained to both little ones that not everyone is the same; some animals can
hop and some animals can reach the leaves at the top of the trees. The mother Kangaroo told
both boys that instead of hiding from or laughing at one another, they should become friends
with different animals to learn more about them. The two little ones promised to never laugh at
animals who are different from them and they remained friends for the rest of their lives.
