These are the Apostle PaulsLIGHT, momentary, afflictions?Being beaten so many times helost count, doesnt seem lightto me! OFTEN near death does-

nt seem light to me! Living inconstant danger of being mur-dered, hardly seems like a smallthing to most sane people! Is thisa case of: One mans light afflictionis another mans heavy burden ofadversity?

I dont believe that Paul was inany way minimizing his own afflic-tions or those of others. Rather,I believe that Pauls perspectivetowards his afflictions was seenthrough the lens of eternity. Inother words, he was not looking

at the SIZE of his afflictions, butat the MEANING of his afflictionsin the light of eternity! Paulsconfidence in the sovereignty ofGod and the goodness of Godgreatly determined how heviewed adversity in his life. Isntthat why he could say some ofthe things he did in Romans 8?

18For I consider that the sufferings ofthis present time are not worth

comparing with the glory that is tobe revealed to us. (Romans 8:18)

28 And we know that for those wholove God all things work together for good, for those who are called ac-cording to his purpose. (Romans8:28)

35Who shall separate us from thelove of Christ? Shall tribulation, or

distress, or persecution, or famine,or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

    (continued on last page)

    17Forthis light momentary af-

fliction is preparing for us an eter-

nal weight of glory beyond all com-

parison, 18as we look not to the

things that are seen but to the

things that are unseen. For the

things that are seen are transient,

but the things that are unseen are

    eternal.

    (2 Corinthians 4:17-18 ESV)

You have, no doubt, heard thesaying: One mans junk is anothermans treasure. The sentimentbehind the saying would seem tobe that one persons perspectivetoward an object may be very

different than anothers towardthe same object. For instance, many of us would probablychoose to visit a rummage salein Beverly Hills, rather than oneon Skid Row!

This same sentiment comes tomy mind when I read about theApostle Pauls LIGHT , momen-tary affliction. What exactly didthe Apostle Paul considerLIGHT affliction in his life?Paul actually writes about his lightmomentary afflictions in 2 Corin-

thians 11. In this chapter, thegreat apostle ends up having todefend his ministry from thosewho considered themselvessuper apostles. Rather thanbacking up his apostleship withthe signs, wonders, and miraclesthat took place at his hands, Paulverifies his apostleship throughhis many sufferings as a true ser-vant of Christ. Here is his partiallisting:

23Are they servants of Christ? I am abetter oneI am talking like amadmanwith far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with count-less beatings, and often near death.24Five times I received at the handsof the Jews the forty lashes less one.25Three times I was beaten withrods. Once I was stoned. Threetimes I was shipwrecked; a nightand a day I was adrift at sea; 26onfrequent journeys, in danger fromrivers, danger from robbers, dangerfrom my own people, danger from

Gentiles, danger in the city, danger

in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; 27in toiland hardship, through many asleepless night, in hunger and thirst,

often without food, in cold andexposure. 28 And, apart from otherthings, there is the daily pressure onme of my anxiety for all thechurches. 29Who is weak, and I amnot weak? Who is made to fall, andI am not indignant? 30If I mustboast, I will boast of the things thatshow my weakness.(2 Corinthians 11:23-30)

Why Believe Moses? Part 3 by Todd Carsten

    P A G E 3V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 4

Part 1 of this series established theoften overlooked fact that JesusChrist personally endorsed every

word of Moses (John 5:46-47). Part2 explored whether the languagefound in Genesis could be treatedas an allegory, thereby allowingbillions of years of geologic historyto be read into the text. We notedeons of time are extremely needfulfor evolutionary theory, which fullyexplains the eagerness during thelast 150 years to posit an immenseage for Planet Earth. Also notedwas the fact Moses had ample op-portunity while editing Genesis tosneak eons of time into the text, but he obviously refrained fromdoing so. He even allowed the sixday creation to appear all overagain in a wholly separate document the Book of Exodus!

At this point, everyone should beon the same page. (If not, pleaseread Parts 1 & 2 in previous issues). There is one final historical fact forany truth seeker to affirm. Follow-ing the Hebrew exodus from Egyptand their crossing of the Red Sea,the Great Creator commandedMoses to ascend Mount Sinai wherehe was to receive a set of ten ex-plicit instructions. The fourth in-struction read as follows: For in sixdays the Lord made heaven and earth,

the sea, and all that is in them, andrested the seventh day: wherefore theLord blessed the sabbath day, and

    hallowed it. (Exodus 20:11)

Herein resides the irrefutable con-firmation that the events of crea-tion occupied the time span of aliteral, six day, human work week, because nothing else fits notlong ages, not millions of years, nothuge time gaps. Should there be anydoubt, try substituting an arbitraryamount of time into the fourthcommandment and note how theentire commandment breaks down. When the very Finger of Godceased etching atop of Mount Sinai,

Moses carried down two stonetablets, one of which contained thefourth commandment, precludingGenesis from ever being inter-preted as an allegory!

After constructing the wildernesstabernacle, Moses placed the twostone tablets within the ark of thecovenant. Above this gold coveredcabinet emanated the Divine Pres-ence (the Shekinah Glory). ThisPresence continually communedwith Moses through out his remain-ing decades on earth. (Ex 25:21, 22)

Following the up-taking of Mosesinto the bosom of Abraham, hissuccessor Joshua recorded: Since

then no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face toface. (Deuteronomy 34:10)

Dear reader, perhaps it's time for along pause and a needful deepbreath. Maybe it's time to reevalu-ate some personally held creationbeliefs to check whether theysquare with the special revelationMoses provided in Genesis andExodus. Accordingly, there is noshame in jettisoning a biblicallyweak creation belief when astronger one becomes fully appar-ent.

    Those still desiring to challenge

Moses' special revelation may doso. Your thesis should be submittedas a white paper suitable for reviewby highly seated, tenured expertswithin Christ's Department of OldTestament Prophets and Patriarchs.E-mails can not be accepted. Saiddepartment reserves the right topromptly shred erroneous creationconcepts, thereby limiting wantonspread of spurious doctrine. Sub-missions should utilize Martin Lu-ther's useful guideline for biblicalscholarship: Be careful of pretendingto know more than the Holy Spirit.

structed His disciples regardingprayer, to ask the Father for anythingin His name (Jn 14:13, 14; 15:16;16:23, 24). And in John 17, Jesus offersHis high priestly prayer, or what could

be called the true Lord's Prayer. Hiscommunication with His Father in-cluded requests on behalf of His disci-

    ples.

    In the Garden of Gethsemane, in Hisagony, Jesus repeatedly prayed for theFather's will to be done (Matt 26:39,42; Mk 14:36; Lk 22:42). While there,He also admonished the weary disci-ples, saying, Keep watching and praying,that you may not enter into temptation;

the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

    (Matt 26:41; Mk 14:38; Lk 22:40, 46).

And in the dark moment of Calvary, Jesus offered words of forgivenessfrom the Cross (Lk 23:34) - the very

forgiveness that brings us life in Him.

Jesus' passion for prayer indicatesthat we should be as passionate as

    He.

    Prayerfully Yours,

    Larry Petry

For you have been called for this pur-pose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow

in His steps... I Peter 2:21

In this Easter season, as we remem-ber Christ's suffering, death and res-urrection for us, we should also re-call how important prayer was in Hislife. Jesus modeled a lifestyle of

    prayer.

Following the Last Supper, Jesus toldSimon Peter that He had prayed thathis faith may not fail (Lk 22:31, 32),

despite his coming denial of Christ.

In His farewell discourse, Jesus in-

    Wednesday Prayer Meeting

    Jesus modeled

    a lifestyle of

    prayer.

Recently, I came across a video enti-tled The Story of Zac Smith, that Iwould encourage all of you to watch. It is a wonderful reminder that Chris-tians DO INDEED view afflictionsdifferently because of our understand-ing of the sovereignty and goodnessof God. The video can be viewed on

    (continued from page 1)

36As it is written,For your sake we are being killed

all the day long;we are regarded as sheep to be

slaughtered.37No, in all these things we are morethan conquerors through him who lovedus. 38For I am sure that neither death norlife, nor angels nor rulers, nor thingspresent nor things to come, nor powers,39nor height nor depth, nor anything elsein all creation, will be able to separate us

from the love of God in Christ Jesus ourLord. (Romans 8:35-39)

After watching it, I trust that yourprayer will not only be for this youngman and his family, but for yourself:Lord, let me be so confident in your goodness and sovereignty, that I will beable to face all of my afflictions the waythis young man is doingall to the gloryof Christ!

    In the Light of Eternity,
