HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS REGARDING THE FIELD PLACEMENT You will be placed with an agency that meets the criteria for a field placement and that would like an intern who has your particular skills. Please note that there are VERY FEW placement options that allow you to complete the hours necessary. Therefore, FLEXIBILITY is essential for successful internships. In addition, it is important for social workers to develop a wide range of experience rather than focusing only on what they already know. With that in mind, please answer the following questions. 1. Preferred Populations: IF you have preferred populations that you would like to work with, please rank each with a “H” for

High Interest, “M” for Moderate Interest, “L” for Low Interest. Please note that due to the limited number or placements that meet the needs of social work students, FLEXIBILITY is essential. In addition, your Social Work professor may believe that is important for you to work with a population that you have not worked with before in order to expand the repertoire of your skills. Please write “H,” “M,” or “L” as indicated above in each line.

___ No preference ___ Infants and Toddlers ___ Children (Elementary School) ___ Adolescents (Junior High) ___ Adolescents (High School) ___ Adults ___ Elderly ___ Women ___ People with Disabilities ___ People in rural areas ___ People in urban areas ___ Other: (Please specify: ___________________________________) Comments about any of these populations:

2. Would you be comfortable working in a Mexican government-sponsored organization? ___ Yes ___No

3. Would you be comfortable working in an organization affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church? ___ Yes, ___No

4. Would you be comfortable working in an organization affiliated with a protestant or evangelical church? ___ Yes, ___No

5. Is there any population or kind of organization with which you would feel very uncomfortable working? ____ Yes, ___ No. If yes, please explain.

6. What would you hope to AVOID in an internship, and why?

7. What specific skills and prior experience do you bring to an internship in Mexico? (You do not need to list every place you have worked, since we can read your resumé. However, we are interested in knowing more about your skills.)

YOUR PERSONALITY/WORK STYLE 1. Do you consider yourself an extrovert or an introvert? How does this aspect of your personality affect you in the workplace? Does

this change when interacting in Spanish? If so, how? 2. How would you characterize your communication style (very direct, indirect, confrontational, etc.)? Does this change when

interacting in Spanish? If so, how?

3. Are you comfortable working independently, or do you prefer to work as part of a team? Please explain. 4. Are you comfortable working on a project with a minimal amount of supervision? ___ Yes, ___ No. Please explain. 5. Do you tend to take initiative or do you prefer to be given instructions from others? Please explain. 6. What do you think the greatest challenges will be for you in successfully completing an internship in Mexico? 7. What intercultural and personal skills or qualities do you have which will help you make this internship in Mexico a success? 8. If you complete your fieldwork in Mexico, you will have a much heavier work load than other students in your program. You will

have less free time and less travel time than other students since you will often have to work on weekends and in the afternoon and other days when other students are off. How do you plan to manage you time and the work load while in Mexico? Have you made plans to come in January or to stay longer and travel at the end of the semester or make other arrangements that will help make up for any limitations you have due to this extra work load?

IS THEREANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE US TO KNOW?

Please respond in Spanish to the questions on the following page. Some of the questions repeat earlier questions because we plan to share this page with potential field instructors/site supervisors.

Don’t forget to attach your resumé! Thanks!
