Google Classroom

Grade Level: 7-12

Civics: All Standards

Google Classroom can fit any standard that the teacher wishes it to, because the teacher has so much say in what the students are seeing and having to do. I can add assignments, message students, and allow parents to see the progress of their students in almost real time. No matter the challenge or class, Google Classroom works, and works well.

Top Ten Rationale:

● Free● Links to all google apps● Great transparency● Gives teacher autonomy● Easy to use and student friendly

You can’t go wrong with TED. The organization’s official app houses hundreds of inspiring and intriguing TED Talks, featuring fascinating lectures from industry and subject matter experts spanning a wide swath of categorical topics. Many of them are perfectly suited for sparking classroom discussions and online debates, while others can serve as inspiration for educators creating new lesson plans or lectures.

TEDGrade Level: 7-12ART I P.6.VAI.1Describe appropriate venues for the presentation of artistic work, based on the meaning to be conveyed(e.g., museums, professional galleries, online venues, alternative venues)

Students in a small town can not experience ART lectures like students in bigger cities. I use this site in my class to allow the students the experience of seeing artists talk about their work. The experience of ART outside of a classroom and off of the canvas is an invaluable experience. This is the link to my favorite TED about ART: https://www.ted.com/playlists/343/street_art?utm_source=tedcomshare&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=tedspread

Students are amazed when they see that ART and ART expression can make a peaceful art project with simple pictures. ART can change people’s lives!

This app is very easy to use and is flexible for most any age.

Top Ten Rationale:❏ Can be used in any Discipline❏ Easily manipulated by most any grade level❏ Promotes critical thinking❏ Meets Common Core Standards❏ Offers flexibility and variation in each subject ❏ It is FREE

QuizletGrade Level: 7-12ART ICR.3.VAI.5Define a body of work(e.g., compositions, artistic maturation, personal visual voice, influences of visual cultures, personal influences, personal environments, personal experiences, underlying visual idea, content, theme, series)

Students in ART I need to be able to recognize the work and influences of various artist. Being able to design a quiz based on pictures, influences and environments of an artist is helpful for the student as well as the teacher. The student can design the quiz or th teacher can design the quiz, either way the quiz can be shared with as many individuals as you want. For example: a student/teacher could place a picture of a piece of artwork and then add facts about the artist...who, what, when, where, why, how etc…..Flash cards could be made, spelling tests could be created, games for groups could be created, statistics and results are reported in a graph format.

EdmodoEdmodo is an online networking application for teachers and students. Think Facebook, but in a safe and controlled environment appropriate for school. Edmodo is primarily a tool for within-class communication, but it also provides several ways for teachers to connect with other teachers. Each edmodo class group is managed and controlled by the teacher Students can only communicate to the whole class or to the teacher – private messages between students are not possible.

Edmodo

Grade Level: 7-12

Civics: CPI.1.C.4 Analyze the purpose, organization, authority, and function of each of the three branches of government at the federal and state levels.

Edmodo takes all the usefulness and ease of communication of Facebook, and takes out all of the risk of using it as well. Say my students had to have a class-wide discussion on the app about the Legislative branch. Not only could I have complete control over the language and know how to discussion is going, but parents can also do the same. There are no private messages, and no other topics other than educational ones that the teacher sets up.

Ton Ten Rationale:

● Minimal risk● Parent inclusive● Means of communication● Teacher controlled

Grade Level: 9-12

Civics: CPI.1.C.2 Construct explanations comparing and contrasting the ideologies of various governments and ways they have changed over time using multiple sources (e.g., anarchy, oligarchy, monarchy, theocracy, autocracy, direct democracy, representative democracy)

StudyBlue is very similar to Quizlet. Not only can you create your own quizzes and flashcards, but you can search for flash cards that are the same subject as yours. If my students needed to study for a quiz about the different types of governments, they can create flashcards on here. However, unlike Quizlet, there are many features that you cannot have access to unless you pay. Despite this, StudyBlue can still be a great tool for any high school student.

Top Ten Rationale:

● Easy interface● Great organizer● Excellent study tool

As students get older, they tend to go on less field-trips. One reason for that is the pain that comes with informing parents, gathering consent forms, and keeping the trip organized. Classtree allows parents to have al consent forms sent online, and gives the teacher an easy way to know what parents did and did not sign off.

Top Ten Rationale:

● Organization● Great for field trips● Easy way to inform parents
