APEH Summer Assignment |1 Name______________________________________ Due Date:_______________________ AP EUROPEAN HISTORY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT Welcome to AP European History! For most, this is your first introduction to Advanced Placement level coursework and exams. AP Euro is an interesting and challenging course that will set you up wonderfully for later AP work and college, but not without pushing you to new academic heights first through journey of the intellectual, social, political, economic, and cultural history of Europe. Thank you for joining the class! Our studies begin in the Renaissance, and although this is “only” the history of a continent, the breadth and depth of the curriculum is challenging. It is extremely difficult cover the full 600 year window in our brief eight months, so as you may have guessed by now, we need to get a head start on our work with an AP Summer Packet. The summer assignment below is designed to give us a great launching point for the rest of the course – without ruining your wellearned break. It includes a summer reading assignment, a terms list, and map work. ALL the work is due on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. The assignment is mandatory and failure to complete it will result in a grade of zero; this will have a significant impact on your first quarter grade. The work for this assignment will be primarily graded for effort and completion, but it should be completed to the best of your ability—all work will form the basis of the first units and assignments in class. It is imperative that your work be completed and ready to turn in the first day of school. I intend for the class to be seminar and project-based, so your preparation by reading the material and completing assignments out of class is absolutely fundamental. We cannot have lively, interesting, and informative discussions if we have not done the readings or the homework. Preparation for the AP exam requires that we maintain a faithful, rigorous, and timely adherence to the AP European curriculum framework and schedule. As with all AP classes, reading and writing will be a significant component of the class. Please read each section of the summer packet for the directions specific to the reading, terms/vocabulary, and map work. I have provided maps for you and the vocabulary terms can be researched on the Internet or assigned text. I encourage you to form a study group to work on the summer project, but I ask that you be mindful of your ethical responsibilities as a student and do your own original work. I try to be very prompt about answering my e-mails, although my schedule is less predictable in the summer. If I do not respond within 24-48 hours, I am probably out-of-town and will answer as soon as I return. Enjoy the work! AP EUROPEAN HISTORY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT

Welcome to AP European History! For most, this is your first introduction to Advanced Placement level

coursework and exams. AP Euro is an interesting and challenging course that will set you up wonderfully for

later AP work and college, but not without pushing you to new academic heights first through journey of the

intellectual, social, political, economic, and cultural history of Europe. Thank you for joining the class!

Our studies begin in the Renaissance, and although this is “only” the history of a continent, the breadth and

depth of the curriculum is challenging. It is extremely difficult cover the full 600 year window in our brief eight

months, so as you may have guessed by now, we need to get a head start on our work with an AP Summer

Packet. The summer assignment below is designed to give us a great launching point for the rest of the course –

without ruining your well‐earned break. It includes a summer reading assignment, a terms list, and map work.

ALL the work is due on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. The assignment is mandatory and failure to

complete it will result in a grade of zero; this will have a significant impact on your first quarter grade. The

work for this assignment will be primarily graded for effort and completion, but it should be completed to the

best of your ability—all work will form the basis of the first units and assignments in class.

It is imperative that your work be completed and ready to turn in the first day of school. I intend for the class to

be seminar and project-based, so your preparation by reading the material and completing

assignments out of class is absolutely fundamental. We cannot have lively, interesting, and informative

discussions if we have not done the readings or the homework. Preparation for the AP exam requires that we

maintain a faithful, rigorous, and timely adherence to the AP European curriculum framework and schedule.

As with all AP classes, reading and writing will be a significant component of the class.

Please read each section of the summer packet for the directions specific to the reading, terms/vocabulary, and

map work. I have provided maps for you and the vocabulary terms can be researched on the Internet or

assigned text. I encourage you to form a study group to work on the summer project, but I ask that you be

mindful of your ethical responsibilities as a student and do your own original work.

I try to be very prompt about answering my e-mails, although my schedule is less predictable in the summer. If

I do not respond within 24-48 hours, I am probably out-of-town and will answer as soon as I return.

Enjoy the work!
