1 Introduction
The Starter Guide AOS is intended in particular for operators or employees of workshops who wish to use
the AOS portal to carry out repairs or maintenance on vehicles of the BMW Group (BMW, BMW Motorrad,
MINI & Rolls-Royce).
This document should help you with the initial steps in the AOS portal by briefly presenting the available
applications* and the most frequent use cases.
Please Note: The Starter Guide AOS is not exhaustive. For more detailed information, please
consult the AOS user guide.
*Applications may not be available in every country. Details of which applications are available in your region
can be found under "Applications" in the portal.
1.1 Registration
You need to register in order to use the AOS portal. The registration process consists of four steps:
Figure 1 Registration process
Step 1: Filing out the registration form at https://aos.bmwgroup.com
Please note that your registration can only be accepted if the specified organisation data matches
the data stored by the financial authorities. In case of uncertainty, please include a trade license,
for example, to verify your data.

2.2 Required hardware (purchase recommendation)
Please Note: Currently valid technical prerequisites can be found under:
https://aos.bmwgroup.com/group/oss/technical-requirements. The hardwares mentioned here are
merely purchase recommendations.
In order to install and use the BMW service tool, we recommend purchasing an Integrated Service
Information Display (ISID Next), an Integrated Communication Optical Module (ICOM) and a KeyReader (for
passenger cars only). You can request order information via the portal under "Service" -> "Diagnostics

2.3 Topping up the virtual credit account
Free services as well as services subject to a charge are offered in the AOS portal. Before you can use
services subject to a charge, you must top up the virtual credit account of your organisation by purchasing
so-called "Credits".
Please note: Topping up the credit account is reserved for the legal representative of an
organisation. The legal representative is the user who was created during registration.
With the available credit, you can then book tickets that grant access to the applications. In the "Start" portal
area select the "My Credit" menu item to top up your virtual credit account:

Figure 17 Top up credit - select the number of credits
1. Top up credit: In the "Start" portal area you will find the "My credit" menu item. Using the "Credit" subitem
you can top up your virtual credit account with "Credits".
2. Billing address: For each Credit top-up, you will receive an invoice through the post. So please make sure
that your correct address is saved in the AOS portal. Use the "Change organisation data" button to correct
an out-of-date address.
BMW Group Page 11
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
Changes to address data result in the creation of a change request. Once this has been checked
and approved by AOS administration, the changed data becomes active.
3. Selection of number of credits: You can either select from five pre-defined quantities or top up an
individual number of "Credits".
4. Order overview: The order overview converts the quantity ordered to an amount and adds on VAT (if
incurred).
5. Confirmation: Click on this button to select the payment method. A saved payment method is always
required for payment. If you have not saved a payment method, you will be asked to complete this step first.
To do this, click "Save payment method".
Figure 18 Topping up credit - saving credit card and completing payment
You can save your credit card data in the following dialogue. The total amount due will then be charged
directly to the credit card and your credit will be topped up. The credit card saved in the process can be
viewed under Payment Method and is also available to you for future payments.
BMW Group Page 12
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
Note: Currently the AOS portal only supports payment using credit cards from Visa and
Mastercard.
You will receive a bill for the top-up by post at the saved billing address within the next two weeks.

Your security is close to our heart: You give your credit card information directly to the payment
service provider, it is not cached on BMW servers.
Please Note: Payment for services of the BMW CarData application is, unlike other AOS
applications, not possible by means of the credit account. More information can be found in the
AOSuser guide.
2.4 Purchasing a ticket
After you have topped up the virtual credit account of your organisation with "Credits", you can use them to
purchase tickets via the "My tickets" menu item.

The usage time of a ticket is calendar based, i.e. it elapses regardless of the usage of the
applications, from the purchase up to the end of the time period. The currently valid price list can
be found under: https://aos.bmwgroup.com/group/oss/pricing
5. Overview of effect on the balance of the virtual credit account
Clicking on "Book" purchases the selected ticket for the active user.
Important: You always purchase tickets for the user you are currently logged on as. It is not
possible to "transfer" a ticket retrospectively to another user access.
Please Note: Payment for services of the BMW CarData application is, unlike other AOS
applications, not possible by means of the credit account. More information can be found in the
AOSuser guide.

3.1 Application types
3.1.1 Web applications
Web applications can be started directly in the browser, installing additional software is not necessary. To
start these applications, it is necessary to use a supported browser and install the latest Java version. The
web applications are:
3.1.1.1 Aftersales Information Research (AIR)
Figure 22 AIR button
The Aftersales Information Research - AIR application provides you with an information research system for
the aftersales sector, which allows technical and commercial service data to be displayed in just one system.
You can use it to make searching for information much quicker and easier, giving you more time to look after
your customers as part of Service and for processing orders in the workshop. AIR provides information about
three topics. The following listing represents only a selection of the available information:
Commercial information:

3.1.1.2 Emissions test nominal values [passenger car only]
Figure 23 Emissions test nominal values button
The application Emissions test nominal values contains the emissions test nominal values for BMW Group
vehicles with petrol engines without catalytic converter, with closed-loop catalytic converter and with OBD, as
well as with diesel engines. Besides the basic data record configuration according to the exhaust-gas test
specifications of the European Union, it also contains country-specific data records for the exhaust-gas test
in Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Portugal, Switzerland and Sweden.
3.1.1.3 Charging Data Information System (CDIS) [passenger car only]
Figure 24 CDIS button
BMW Group Page 19
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
The charging time calculator uses just a few specifications to calculate an approximate value for the charging
time of BMW i vehicles. For this purpose, it is merely necessary to specify the (estimated) initial state of
charge (with which the customer hands over the vehicle into the care of the Service staff and/or with which
the charging procedure is started) and to select the vehicle model. The charging time calculator uses this
information to calculate the charging time in 10% steps up to the 100% mark. This process can be carried
out simultaneously for up to three different charging station types with different nominal capacities and
charging procedures. These charging station types may be configured individually for each operation.
3.1.1.4 Electronic Parts Catalogue (WebEPC)
Figure 25 WebEPC button
The Electronic Parts Catalogue in the internet (WebEPC) shows you the complete range of BMW Group
sales parts online and is intended to facilitate location of the sales parts you require (vehicle components
and other products). Various search functions are available, for example, search by names. The system also
offers you detailed information on individual sales parts and the option of putting the located parts together
into so-called parts lists.
It is not possible to order sales parts directly using the Electronic Parts Catalogue. To order,
please contact your local BMW Retailer.
3.1.1.5 Electronic Parts Catalogue - BMW Motorrad [motorcycle only]

sales parts online and is intended to facilitate location of the sales parts you require (vehicle components
and other products). Various search functions are available, for example, search by names. The system also
offers you detailed information on individual sales parts and the option of putting the located parts together
into so-called parts lists.
Note: The Electronic Parts Catalogue – Motorrad application only contains data for BMW
motorcycles.
Operators of combined workshops can find this information in the usual Electronic Parts
Catalogue.
It is not possible to order sales parts directly using the Electronic Parts Catalogue. To order,
please contact your local BMW Retailer.
3.1.1.6 SAE fault code
Figure 27 SAE fault code button
Vehicle-related fault codes can be translated into general SAE fault codes using the SAE fault code
application.
3.1.1.7 KeyReader [passenger car only]
BMW Group Page 21
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
Figure 28 KeyReader button
Using the KeyReader application, the binary key data can be interpreted in the background of the application
and the corresponding vehicle can be loaded in the application with the interpreted data.
Additional hardware is required to use this application: a KeyReader. For more information about
ordering this hardware, refer to the portal under "Service" -> "Diagnosis item".
3.1.1.8 Service History [passenger car only]
Figure 29 Service History button
The Service History functionality involves exchanging maintenance-relevant CBS items (Condition Based
Service) between the central vehicle description module (FBM) of BMW AG and the AOS portal. In order to
access the stored Service History for a vehicle or add maintenance-relevant CBS positions to the service
history, it is first necessary to identify the vehicle via the vehicle identification number (VIN). All digitally
recorded service entries from 12/2010 onward are displayed (older service entries from the BMW Service
Booklets were not transferred to the electronic service booklet and are therefore not displayed). Using the
application, possible CBS items (depending on the respective vehicle type or control type), for example,
vehicle check, front brake, rear brake, brake fluid etc. can be entered in the official BMW Service History via
the order basis.
BMW Group Page 22
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
Please note: The entries in the Service History will not yet be displayed in the vehicle upon being
transmitted to the central vehicle description module (FBM) of BMW AG. The entries must be
written into the vehicle via the ISTA application using an ICOM in order for the vehicle to be able
to display them. Further information about the ISTA application can be found on the start page of
the application.
Important: Not all vehicles support the display of the Service History entries in the vehicle.
3.1.1.9 Technical Campaigns
Figure 30 Technical Campaigns button
In the Technical Campaigns application, the required Technical Campaigns identified by BMW are displayed.
Important: The application is for information purposes only, the Technical Campaigns can be
carried out in authorised BMW workshops free of charge.
3.1.1.10 Workshop equipment
BMW Group Page 23
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
Figure 31 Workshop equipment button
In the Workshop equipment application you will find workshop equipment which is specially adapted to the
requirements of the models of the BMW Group brands. The online catalogue informs you comprehensively
about the current equipment in BMW, MINI, BMW Motorrad and Rolls-Royce workshops and supports you in
your purchase decision. It also provides detailed functional descriptions and allows selected products to be
compared directly.
3.1.1.11 BMWCarData
Figure 32 BMW CarData Symbol
BMW CarData gives you the option to access telematics data from BMW vehicles. The only prerequisite is
that a customer explicitly agrees to your request to release their data and that they have a telematics-
capable vehicle which is assigned to a valid ConnectedDrive customer account. Based on this data you can
offer customised personalised services to your customers.
The BMW CarData service offered in this portal is intended exclusively for service providers who wish to use
BMW CarData. The service is currently being introduced gradually for BMW ConnectedDrive customers in
European countries. The functions are available free in the BMW ConnectedDrive customer portal.
3.1.2 Client applications
BMW Group Page 24
AOS Starter Guide Version 18.1 of 32
Client applications with their own software must be installed before they can be used. Since important
updates are regularly released for the applications, we recommend checking before use if updates were
released.
For applications that communicate with the vehicle, ensure that the drivers of the vehicle interface
(BMW ICOM or pass-through tool) are up-to-date.
The installation files can be found on the start page of the application (as shown here using the example of
the ISTA Workshop System):
