Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to St Clement’s CofE Primary School! It’s always a pleasure to welcome new children and parents into the St. Clement’s family.

In response to these unprecedented times we would like to reassure you that we will work proactively to support your child’s transition into school. This will be an important milestone for you and your child and a time which we hope to be happy, positive and filled with excitement for the future.

As timescales for school closures remain unknown, we are currently considering a September start date for transition arrangements, but will swiftly respond to any change to this, as directed by the DfE and Rivers Multi Academy Trust. Any new arrangements will be communicated to you as soon as possible, as we acknowledge that making arrangements for transition may be challenging for many parents and carers to undertake at this time.

We hope that the information here is comprehensive but also delivers the basic information you need as clearly as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the EYFS team in school via

Life in Reception Class Initially the school session will be similar to their pre-school experience (if

attended). Each day begins by inviting children to self register by finding their name

card and placing it on the number line or in the box, then your child will be encouraged to go to the cloakroom to hang up their own coat and belongings.

Throughout the session, the children will be able to explore the range of activities set out for them, including access to the outdoor learning area.

At times, children will sit together as a class to hear a story, sing some familiar rhymes or share a discussion session.

This is an important time for children to build relationships with the staff team and their peers.

Children will become familiar with routines and expected behaviours across areas of the early years setting, including rules for good listening, toileting and eating lunch.

During the first few weeks the children will be observed closely by their class teachers and engage in activities on a one to one basis in order to create an on entry profile or “Baseline assessment”.

Independence is key:

• Dressing and undressing in preparation for PE.• Being able to use the toilet including wiping

themselves and hand washing afterwards.• Knowing where their book bags, lunch boxes and

drinks belong in the classroom.• Being responsible for their own belongings (coats,

jumpers, book bags etc). • Tidy away the toys they have been playing with.• Sit at a dinner table and use a knife and fork

independently.

Key information Uniform can be purchased from school. You will receive a phone call

during June or July where you can place an order. This will be ready to collect in September during the transition sessions. More information can be found on our website.

Currently all of the children are eligible for a free daily healthy meal up until the end of Year 2 which is supplied by an external provider. We will ask you to complete a tick box order each half term which indicates your choices. Children may still opt to bring a packed lunch, should they prefer.

In September, you will receive a ParentPay activation letter which will allow you to make online payments for all things linked to school.

DRAFT Transition Arrangements 2020

Ordinarily, we hold a number of lovely transition events for parents/carers and children in June and July, but sadly we are unable to offer these due to the current situation.

With this in mind, we have opted to share a draft schedule for transition with you which begins in September. The children will have similar opportunities to those set out for the Summer months, but condensed into the first week of the Autumn Term.

We are aware that many parents this year will be extremely anxious to return to work as their children start school. However, we are attempting to balance this with a plan based on our experience and expertise in successfully settling new cohorts of children into school.

This will be your child’s one and only opportunity to experience starting school. Therefore, we aim to make it as enjoyable and positive as we possibly can by following a graduated, step by step approach which allows the children to successfully process a wealth of new information and routines, and to begin building new relationships with you and your children.

DRAFT Summary of Arrangements for Transition

Week 1 : Wednesday 2nd September to Friday 4rd September

Activity sessions with parents/carers:

These sessions will last for 45 minutes. They will provide an opportunity for you and your child to meet the class teacher, take a look inside the classroom and join in with activities.

You will enter school via your child’s classroom door. The classes will be clearly labelled and you be notified of your child’s class and activity session time well in advance.

These small group introductions to the school setting will support your child’s first steps into school and help them to feel confident.
