FOOLISHNESS Sometimes the idea of repentance seems old-fashioned, naïve, even foolish. But if you’re looking for real foolishness, you’ll find it in today’s readings. We begin with Leviticus and the admonition, “Take no revenge and cherish no grudge” (Leviticus 19:18). We’ve heard that message before, of course, so we might forget how far it is from the so-called “practical realities of life.” Saint Paul warns us about being practical, though. Whoever considers oneself wise had better “become a fool,” because “the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God” (1 Corinthians 3:18, 19). This “foolishness” continues in the Gospel: “Offer no resistance to one who is evil” (Matthew 5:39). In fact, offer the other cheek when you’ve been slapped. Hand over your coat as well as your shirt. Be like God, who sends sunshine and rain on the bad as well as the good. “So be perfect,” says Jesus, “just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (5:48).

NECEDAD A veces la noción del arrepentimiento parece anticuada, inge-nua y hasta necia. Pero si buscas locura, la encontrarás en las lecturas de hoy. Comencemos con Levítico y la amonestación “no te vengues ni guardes rencor” (Levítico 19:18). Por supuesto que hemos escuchado este mensaje antes, y por eso puede que olvidemos lo alejado que está de las “realidades prácticas de la vida”, contra las que nos advierte san Pablo. Será mejor que quien se considere sabio “se haga ignorante”, porque “la sabiduría de este mundo es ignorancia ante Dios” (1 Corintios 3:18, 19). Esta “locura” continúa en el Evangelio: “No hagan resistencia al hombre malo” (Mateo 5:39). De hecho, presenta la otra mejilla, si has sido golpeado. Dale tu abrigo al que te pide la camisa. Sé como Dios que manda el sol y la lluvia sobre justos e injustos. “Sean perfectos”, dice Jesús, “como su Padre celestial es perfecto” (5:48).

The Seven Sisters Apostolate is a call to strengthen the Church by ensuring that a Holy Hour is prayed each day of the week for the sole intention of one specific priest. We are blessed to have two groups at St. Michael’s; one praying for our Pastor, Fr. Eugene, and one praying for our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Javier. If you feel called to offer the prayerful sacrifice of one Holy Hour a week on the same day each week, you can learn more about this apostolate and sign up for one of the groups on our website: www.stmichaelmckinney.org.

MINISTRY CORNER - RINCÓN DEL MINISTERIO

Last weekend, Christ Renews His Parrish Retreat in Spanish for Men took place. This retreat is a meaningful and engaging two day spiritual retreat. Supported by parishioners, priests and deacons. Here we learn the value of our Chris an com-munity in our con nuing faith journey. This encounter, provides an experience of personal conversion, spiritual refreshment and renewal in Christ through the Holy Spirit. Shown above, the women of CRHP English joyfully serving our Spanish men CRHP breakfast this past Sunday. This is what a family in faith looks like! Next CRHP retreat will be in English, for women on April 4th and 5th.

El fin de semana pasado, se llevo a cabo el re ro de Cristo Renueva Su Parroquia en español para hombres. Este re ro es un valioso e interesante re ro espiritual de dos días. Apoyado por feligreses, sacerdotes y diáconos, se aprende el valor de la comunidad Cris ana en nuestro con nuo crecimiento de fe. Este encuentro proporciona una experiencia de conversión personal, renovación espiritual así como de reencuentro con Cristo por medio del Espíritu Santo. Aquí mostramos un alegre grupo de mujeres de CRSP en inglés preparando con mucho cariño el desa-yuno el pasado domingo, a los asistentes del re ro. ¡Así es como se ve una familia en la fe! El siguiente re ro de CRSP será en inglés y para mujeres, en Abril 4 y 5.

Saint Paul in Romans 12:4-8, encourages us to share our talents as gifts with the Church. St. Michael’s parishioner, Don Reising, has shared his wonderful skill and talent of furniture making with us on several occasions in the past. He was kind enough to share his talent again by building two kneelers shown in the photo. Don is an active member of St. Michael’s Knights of Columbus Council 9903. The Knights generously purchased the solid oak wood and other materials for the construction of the kneelers while Don donated his time and furniture making skills. The church has needed the kneelers for a long time not only for use at the weekend Masses, but also for weddings, and for the quinceañeras. We are indebted and so grateful to many parishioners who like Don, offer their generous donation of their time and talent for the greater glory of God. Thank you Don. You have blessed us all with your generosity. San Pablo en Romanos12:4-8, nos exhorta a compartir nuestros talentos como ofrendas a la Iglesia. Don Reising, miembro de San Miguel, ha compartido su maravilloso talento de construir muebles en diversas ocasiones ya en el pasado. Don amablemente nos ha ayudado de nuevo, construyendo para nosotros dos reclinatorios que se muestran en la foto. Don es miembro de los Caballeros de Colón Consejo 9903. Los Caballeros han generosamente comprado madera solida de roble, otros materiales para la construcción de los reclinatorios y Don nos regaló su tiempo y su gran habilidad. La Iglesia ha necesitado estos reclinatorios por mucho tiempo, no solamente para las Misas, sino también para las bodas, y para las quinceañeras. Estamos en deuda con muchos feligreses que al igual que Don, generosamente comparten su tiempo y talento para la Gloria de Dios. ¡Gracias Don! Tu generosidad nos ha bendecido. So

The problem is that we choose something that’s unnecessary. We choose something that’s arbitrary, which is fine, but it’s not very helpful at all. It is the wisest thing to choose a Lenten penance that’s necessary that grows out of your felt need, based on where God is calling you. So for yourself, for this Lent, what’s something that you can tell is ge ng in the way of your rela onship with the Lord? Lent starts this Wednesday, February 26th with Ash Wednesday. El problema es que escogemos algo que no es necesario. Elegimos algo arbitrariamente, lo cual está bien, pero no es de ninguna ayuda. Lo más conveniente es escoger en Cuaresma una penitencia que sea necesaria, que salga de lo que sientes que necesitas, de acuerdo a lo que Dios te está pidiendo.
