As we arrive to the Fourth Sunday of Lent, I wish to share a few of the thoughts and reections we received following Fr. Eugene Hensell’s visit and talk on the Passion Narratives earlier this month. Fr. Eugene’s talk helps us understand the history of that time, his way of explaining the fears and anxieties lived by Jesus and his Apostles allows us to see their very human side. Father showed us that we are all the same, we are only separated by time. Following are some more thoughts shared by parishioners who attended the two-evening event with Fr. Eugene Hensell. “These talks gave me a new perspective on the Passion.” “Fr. Eugene asked us to consider that large chunks of Jesus’ life are not recorded in the Gospels and to realize that what is wriƩen in the Gospels is there to tell the important parts of Jesus’ life.” “The Bible is not necessarily factual or historical but it is TRUE. We are to look beyond to what is the prophetic symbolic meaning.” “As people of faith, we are now better able to place our stories into the larger story – the story of Salvation” At the end of evening two, Fr. As we arrive to the Fourth Sunday of Lent, I wish to share a few of the thoughts and reflections we received following Fr.

“These talks gave me a new perspective on the Passion.”

“Fr. Eugene asked us to consider that large chunks of Jesus’ life are not recorded in the Gospels and to realize that what is wri en in the Gospels is there to tell the important parts of Jesus’ life.”

“The Bible is not necessarily factual or historical but it is TRUE. We are to look beyond to what is the prophetic symbolic meaning.”

“As people of faith, we are now better able to place our stories into the larger story – the story of Salvation”

At the end of evening two, Fr. Eugene challenged us with the ques on: “Who is le to tell the story? The reader – so read scripture, then proclaim it and live it.”

On the journey,

Fr. Dennis G. Lewandowski

People of Holy Spirit

We pray for those who are sick, and we pray for and remember

those who have gone to eternal life,

especially for Eileen Ford, Reed Gifford and Mary Overbeck.

Stephen Ministry training is close to completion after 50 hours of training.

We ask you to keep these special Stephen Minister

trainees and all our current Stephen Ministers in

your prayers as they nurture their gifts and hone

their skills so that they can bring Christ’s love and

care to hurting people on behalf of our congregation.

Also pray for our Stephen Leaders who guide them.

If you are going through a dif icult time and would like

a Stephen Minister to walk with you on your journey

or have questions regarding how Stephen Ministry

works, please contact Kathy Ford RN/ Parish Nurse

and Coordinator of Stephen Ministry at

630-922-0081 ex. 228.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Please keep James Strange,

our catechumen, in your prayers

during this Lenten season.

Jim is in the final stages of preparing for baptism and

to be received into full communion in the Catholic

Church at the Easter Vigil.

Also keep Judith Zarebski in your Lenten prayers.

Judith is affirming her faith after being away from

the Church for many years.

This year of preparation and study is a profound

experience of God in their lives. We as a community

stand with them in prayer and worship.

Lenten Confessions — Tuesday, April 9th from 6:30 to 7:30pm

Helping those who are less fortunate is part of Lent, and this was not lost on the 1st to 6th-grade students in our RE program as they did their annual service project this year.

The 1st to 4th graders, spent time last month doing chores around the house to earn money. Some chores included making their beds, setting the dinner table, and taking the trash out. Some kids earned 50 cents per chore, and some of the heavy negotiators

managed to convince their parents to offer up as much as $5 per chore.

Instead of doing chores, the 5th and 6th-grade students collected toys, books, and other knick-knacks for a raffle. They could then buy raffle tickets to try and win the donations that their peers had brought in. Some of the premier prizes included new board games and even a virtual reality headset.

When it was all said and done, the RE kids banded together to raise $1,172.82 for the Dominican Literacy Center (DLC) in Aurora, IL. The DLC helps women learn to read, write, and speak English, as well as helping immigrant women and men prepare to pass their naturalization test to become U.S. citizens.
