Health & Wellness
Throughout this school year students will explore a broad scope of activities. The physical education setting is rich with opportunity for not only skill development but character development, too.
Sharlyn Randolph
The course content focuses on promoting physical activity while integrating cross-curricular academic skills, and employing teaching strategies which provide a safe environment for student participation.
Activities include rhythmic movement, fundamental physical skills and specialized physical skills as well as small and large collaborative projects.
Content
The program helps students understand the value & importance of working together with a global perspective. Students learn to appreciate participation, cooperation and tolerance. This program also stresses the positive relationship between physical activity and health
The aim is to increase participation in and enjoyment of lifetime physical activities.

Grading Policy: The majority of the students grades are determined daily by earning Personal Engagement Points. They can earn 5 points each class period:
2 pts- Being on time for roll call (taken at beginning of class after dress out and at the end of class) 1 pt- Wearing appropriate P.E. attire (including shoes - no flip-flops are allowed for safety reasons) 2 pts- Personal Engagement (showing respect, actively engaged)

Expectations - Policies
Homework is rare in this setting at this age, as typically time is built into class to finish assignments at school. If homework is assigned, ample time for completion is also given.
Behavior: Safety is the most important priority in Health & Wellness class. Students are expected to come to class prepared, being good listeners and ready to participate. They will engage in all activities safely, act in a respectful, honest manner, and always take responsibility for their actions.
Expectations - Policies
What should they bring? Students should come to class in clothing that feels comfortable to move around freely. Their shoes should cover their toes, have a rubber sole and be securely attached to their feet (laces, Velcro, etc.). If they choose to change out of the Academy uniform the approved alternate clothing is a plain gray top and solid black bottoms.
Personal water bottles are welcome and encouraged – staying hydrated is a must!

What should students bring? Two pocket folder
One Subject Notebook (remains in classroom)
Pencils
Two pocket folder: Students will be required to keep all the in-class notes and worksheets in the folder. Each quarter, students can empty their folder, however, it is strongly suggested to keep a file at home of old materials/notes.
Classroom Materials
Homework is minimal because sufficient time is allotted in class to complete all work.
When class work is not completed in class, students are expected to finish assignments at home.
It is the student’s responsibility to complete assignments and tests on time. Late assignments are deducted 10% each late school day.

Projects are completed exclusively in class. Work can be taken home if unfinished and more time is needed to complete before due date. Late work will be accepted up to seven days (or two class periods for wheel classes) after its due date for a 10% penalty.
