(In other words, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and trail mix!) Each of the 35 students invited one guest to the feast that took place on Wednesday, November 21st. Miss Taylor’s Indians and Mrs. Johnson’s Pilgrims entertained everyone with songs and helped share the Thanksgiving story. The Kindergartners even asked their guests to join in on our last song, “If You’re Thankful and You Know It”. During our program the boys and girls had the chance to share what they were thankful for. In addition to all their hard work preparing the meal they created decorations for the lunchroom! They made turkey’s to hang on the wall and turkey’s for centerpieces on the tables. The decorations added a very festive holiday touch to the Feast and also to the other students and adults in the school who ate lunch that day! We received many compliments throughout the day on our adorable turkey’s! Friends of Fine Arts Happy December! We hope you can take a little time to relax and enjoy the spirit of the season. MCT Peter & Wendy By: Maryellen Homan

Missoula Children’s Theatre presented “Peter and

Wendy” to the Oakes community on November 9 & 10, 2018. Fifty-one students auditioned and were cast for the play. Aside from the audition on Monday, the tour directors also conducted workshops for all children in Grades 1-3. These fun and engaging workshops included Acting, Let’s Make Up, and Improv. The MCT directors, Matthew Porter and Hadley Williams, were very impressed with the quality of talent and cooperative behavior of our youth. Total attendance for both nights of the performance numbered 364. Special thanks to pianist Donna Cline and to all who supported the show, especially Virginia Gramlow and Active Arts members who hosted art classes held the Saturday before the audition. Seventeen young artists painted lively pictures with acrylics on

canvas. Their work was on display during both performances. Thank you to the Oakes Public Schools, the Active Arts Club, and the ND council on the Arts for funding the event. Wait to see what MCT play is coming to town next November!

Counseling Corner By: Janelle Wibstad & Jamie Franks

In a research study utilizing brain scans the following

findings were made in connection with screen addiction:

• Gray matter atrophy • Compromised white matter integrity • Reduced cortical thickness • Impaired cognitive functioning • Cravings and impaired dopamine function

In short, excessive screen-time appears to impair brain structure and function. Much of the damage occurs in the brain’s frontal lobe, which undergoes massive changes from puberty until the mid-twenties. Frontal lobe development, in turn, largely determines success in every area of life—from sense of well-being to academic or career success to relationship skills. Use this research to strengthen your own parental position on screen management, and to convince others to do the same.
