This is probably the easiest show in the history of shows for unloading and loading. All you have to do is pull in one of the large doors to the barn, drive right up to your spot, and set your phones or other antiques right on your table. When packing, you can also again pull right up to your table to load. The dates for this show are Friday evening March 31, 2017, beginning at 5 PM, and Saturday, April 1, 2017 beginning at 8 AM. We will have lots of advertising in the Antique papers of the Tri-state area. We will have donuts and coffee on Saturday morning and pizza from Chicago Pizza again on Friday evening. No booze as Shipshewana is still a dry town. We have collectors signed up who are bringing a trailer load of nice old phones and parts to some just bringing a few nice desk sets. One person is bringing 15 payphones to sell. Some are only coming to buy including one who is especially looking for insulators. Latest news on the Knappen monumental book undertaking

Confronted with obstacles that popped up just prior to Feb. 19, there will be a delay in publishing the large book on Tele-phone History. Thank you for the 30 collectors who requested copies. We apologize that delivery may not occur as we had previously expected. We won’t advertise it again except possibly on our web-site until the printing process is in motion. Be that so, the price will likely be $119.00 (those who have ordered the set will still be at the $98). Please let us know soon if you are interested; no money needed until onset of delivery. 348 names are represented and indexed who claimed to be manufactures of telephones. In addition, around 20 were dis-tributors and/or dealers. 95% these are U.S. These pictorially oc-cupy 1750 pages. 767 pages show nearly all the 348 name brands. 238 pages are AE, Kellogg, and SC, 560 pages are of Bell and WE, 185 pages are of LME., 113 pages show European companies. Addi-tionally, 79 pages show vehicles which were used by telephone companies. A development history, table of contents and index is freely available to anyone who requests them in letter or email. No charge. About 5-6 pages. *************************************************Jon Kolger No. 561 6906 Meade Drive Colleyville, TX 76034 (817)-329-5262 [email protected] WANTED Looking for unusual acoustic “string” telephones, partic-ularly those with magneto-signaling and/or speaking/listening tubes. The mouthpiece above is designed to disinfect itself au-tomatically and thereby minimize the danger of spreading disease through this source. The instrument consists of several shells. The inner shell has a fine thread for a Western Electric transmitter, and an annular flange extending laterally from the outer end of the in-ner shell so as to confine and embrace the outer shells. In the space between the outer and intermediate shells is a pad with disinfectant solution. From this the fumes are disseminated, passing through an air chamber formed by the intermediate and inner shells, then out through the opening of the inner shells. The patent number is 1,176,900 and patented by E.M. Jenkins. The sanitary telephone mouthpiece patent was applied for on October 10, 1914. The Jenkins Aseptifone is one of the very rare sanitary mouthpieces and the above one is the only one I have ever seen. ...John Huckeby

ITSY BITSY TEENY W££ ¥ Miniature Telephones

By the late Ken King Submitted by Geoff Hillestad #112

One of the most desirable miniature collectibles among telephone collectors and general antique collectors are re-duced-scale copies of actual telephones. The little telephones usually measure between 2.5 and 3.5 inches in height, al-though a few will vary by a few inches ..

Miniature telephones are commonly referred to as "salesman samples .. due to their exacting detail and con-formity to the full-size working telephones used through-out America. However, research and conversations with early telephone pioneers generally conclude that the origi-nal factory models produced from 1910 to 1915 were gifts given to large and small telephone exchange owners, the commercial buyers of working telephones and supplies.

The most common factory produced miniature is the early 1900s model of the Stromberg-Carlson desk stand. This model is typically marked with the company name across the top of the transmitter cup. This same model was also less frequently marked on the face of the transmitter with the name "Home Telephone Company." A much less common, factory produced version was modeled after the

Dean or Garford Telephone Company desk stand of the same era. It was almost always marked on the face of the trans-mitter. This version appears to have had more varied name markings than the Stromberg-Carlson model.

Beginning in 1988 a long-time antique telephone col-lector, who is both a skilled artisan and craftsman, began very limited miniature production of many of the popular telephones used in Ametica. These models are each hand-made and were generally limited to only four of each phone. The first models produced were not marked. After the initial unmarked models, the later productions were stamped "E. B. Ellis, Maker." (The word "Maker" appears under E. B. Ellis.) More than forty-five different miniature telephones have been produced. Among the rarest of the Ellis miniatures are three models that actually work. The most recent technology allows very detailed markings on the transmitter face.

The value of the factory produced miniatures and the more ecent Ellis productions continues to increase. The typical value for a complete miniature in good condition will bring from $100 to $250. Some of the rare models may command even higher prices.
