1. BRIEF DETAIL OF THE INSTITUTION
Background of the institute:
The Extension Education Institute, Nilokheri, set up in 1959 during the Second Five Year
Plan period, was the first training institute of its kind in the country. The Institute was
primarily established as a Trainers’ Training Institute to strengthen the competence of
the trainers/instructors of Training Centres. Subsequently the Institute has been
assigned the other responsibilities of imparting training to in-service officers of various
departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Social Forestry,
Rural Development and other land based development departments; along with
imparting training to the Master Trainers/Scientists of State Agricultural Universities,
Extension personnel’s of Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ATMA, SAMETI, NGOs etc. Besides
training in Extension Reforms and Communication Media, the special courses are also
being organized in the areas like Extension Management, Management of Training
Programme, Entrepreneurial Skills, Market Led Extension, Extension Methodology &
Motivational Skills.
Aims & objectives:
The main aims and objectives of the Institute are as under:
To provide in-service training to staff of the State Training Institutes / Staff of Line
Departments / State Agricultural Universities in Extension Teaching Methods and
Communication Media.
To organize workshops on Communication & Extension Teaching Methods / Training
Methodology for Master Trainers / Sub Divisional Agricultural Officers / Subject
Matter Specialists working under broad based agricultural extension system.
To conduct workshops in specialized fields like Monitoring and Evaluation,
Supervision & Extension Management for Middle Level Extension personnel working
under broad based agricultural extension system.
To undertake programme of publication and production of basic teaching / training
material as relevant to extension personnel.
To have continuous programme of field studies / research on Extension Education
and allied subjects.

Clientele:
The Institute caters the training needs of middle level extension functionaries including
Subject Matter Specialists, Sub Divisional Agricultural Officers, Agriculture Development
Officers and other in-service extension personnel working in the Department of
Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Horticulture, Fishery, Social forestry,
Sericulture, and Rural Development of the northern states viz. Jammu & Kashmir,
Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Delhi, Bihar and
Jharkhand. Besides, these training; programmes are also conducted for the Extension
Personnel, Scientists and Master Trainers of North Indian Agricultural Universities, Krishi
Vigyan Kendras of ICAR and NGO’s

Physical facilities available:
i. Participants’ Hostel: The Institute has a well-furnished participants’ hostel having 24
rooms for providing lodging and boarding facilities to the participants. The hostel is
used by participants of various on-campus courses organized at the Institute. It also
serves as a guest house for various dignitaries visiting the institute for official
purposes. All the rooms in the hostel are Air Conditioned, LED TV, room heater,
dressing table are also available in the rooms. Facility of Wi-Fi is also available in the
hostel premises. Dining facilities are also available inside the hostel.
ii. Training Hall: The Institute has well-furnished air conditioned seminar hall having
seating capacity of 45-50 participants. It is being used for imparting training to the
participants of various courses. All the audio visual aids are available in the hall.
iii. Library: The Institute has a good collection (about 3900 books) of books on
Agricultural Extension and allied subjects. Library is also enriched with about 15
quarterly/ monthly journals and magazines. Three newspapers are also received in
the library for use of the participants.
iv. Computer Lab: The institute has a computer lab having 20 computers with internet
connectivity and a projector for the training purpose.
v. Mobilization of participants: For the purpose of mobilizing participants in the field
areas, the institute have mini bus having seating capacity of 26 persons. This facility
is being used for organising exposure visits to the trainees who attend training/
workshop at EEI, Nilokheri. One staff car is also available for official purposes.

MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION:
The Institute is working under the guidance of the Management Committee
constituted by the Govt. of India. The main function of this committee is to provide
guidance for planning and management of training programmes for Annual and Five Year
Plan, to conduct periodical review of progress of training programmes and to take any policy

principles to the development and dissemination of Agricultural information using various

The objectives of this module are to the need for effective communication in agriculture and
allied sectors; apprise participants of the value of communication in programs and projects
and writing effectively for print, electronic and digital media.
