Services24-Hour Domestic Violence Safe Shelter52-bed emergency safe shelter where victims of domestic violence and their children may seek refuge in times of crisis.

Crisis Support Hotline24-hour free confidential crisis support hotline answered by trained staff to provide crisis intervention referrals and community support for victims, survivors, family, friends, and the community.

Case Management and AdvocacyCase managers offer support, referrals to other services, and comprehensive aid within AWAIC. Advocates provide options and information to ensure family’s needs are met.

Children’s ProgramStaff specially trained to help children who have been witnesses or victims of domestic violence. A stable environment with play areas for each age group, an outdoor playground, support and education groups, and arranged transportation to schools are available for all children in the shelter.

Non-Residential ProgramsResources, information, case management, education and support groups available to victims and survivors of domestic violence who may or may not reside in the shelter.

Community Education and PreventionDomestic violence education with an emphasis on healthy relationships, as well as prevention efforts and education, are delivered to youth, professionals, and other individuals throughout our community.

Legal AdvocacyLegal Advocates are available at the domestic violence office of the Boney Courthouse to help with protective orders and to accompany victims to hearings.

Willa’s WayPartnership between AWAIC and Southcentral Foundation to provide shelter and support in a smaller and more culturally appropriate space.

Harmony House Low cost housing available for women making the transition to independent living. Accommodates up to ten women without dependent children.

Moving ForwardProgram to assist a participant when they leave AWAIC’s emergency shelter and move into permanent housing.

Alaska Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Intervention Project (ADVSAIP)Short-term case management and emergency financial assistance aimed at increasing victim safety and offender accountability.

Since 1977, AWAIC has been providing domestic violence safe shelter, intervention, and resources to women, men, and children in the Anchorage community. We are committed to supporting victims of domestic violence, their friends, family, and the community as a whole. AWAIC is the largest domestic violence emergency shelter in Alaska, offering a full continuum of services for victims and those who care about them. A foundation of empowerment is key to help all those affected by domestic violence, allowing them to make positive decisions in their lives. We believe that everyone has the right to live in a fear-free environment and we work toward eliminating domestic violence.
