CHARLESTOWN BOWLING CLUB LIMITED
CHAIRMAN’S FOREWORD 2017-2018 On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to present my report for 2017-2018. It has been another successful year for Charlestown Bowling Club as we have continued to upgrade and improve facilities for our members and guests. Our Bowlers: Thank you to everyone who participated this year in this great game we play! It certainly has been another great year of bowling.
• Our talented women bowlers were successful in winning another flag to add to their
achievements. Congratulations to all for outstanding bowling and another competitive
year.
• Our men also certainly put in a great effort with a vast improvement seen under the
guidance of our new Bowls Co-ordinator, Daniel Hill. All our teams were very competitive
during the season.
For further information please refer to our Bowls Co-Ordinators report. Our Club: This year many suggested innovations were trialled and implemented which proved successful. Michael Gray (our Chief Executive Officer) and the Board have continued to review the Club’s operations and consider future vision for the club. We again focussed on listening to our members to improve facilities. Congratulations also goes to Michael for achieving his Master of Business Administration at the Australian Institute of Business. We are certainly proud of your achievement and recognise your hard work in balancing studies with your club responsibilities. This year saw some more quality upgrades and improvements including:
• Modernisation of furniture, upgrading and expansion of our restaurant area. This has
certainly provided a new-look for the club and has seen a noticeable increase in patrons
every day.
• Numerous internal and maintenance changes such as purchase of additional poker
machine entitlements
• Technology upgrades including upgrading television viewing screens
• Enhancement of entertainment for members
We remain committed to moving forward with the Club’s vision to ensure our club becomes the bowls club of choice in the area and continue to review ideas for the betterment of our club. Our Board remains committed and focused on making decisions that keep this club viable and continue to promote the interest of all members, social and bowling. We will continue to foster the support for our community and continue to be an employer of choice for our staff.

CHAIRMAN’S FOREWORD 2017-2018 CONTINUED Our People
This club is so lucky to have quality amazing employees. Under the great leadership of Michael Gray (CEO) the club has seen smooth running operations again this year with dedicated staff who have continued to provide great services for our members and guests. We thank you all for working so hard to make our members and guests feel welcome, safe and ensuring they enjoy themselves.
Our kitchen this year has expanded their staff and under the proficient management of Greg Hawke they have capably serviced our members and guests. They work tirelessly to ensure our patrons have a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. Big congratulations also go to
Greg and Damien for their amazing participation in the NSW Clubs Chef Table awards on Monday 31 July 2018 in Sydney. You both did a wonderful job in representing the Club by preparing and plating such amazing dishes from a mystery box, and you are to be congratulated on your outstanding achievement. We are all so proud of you both!
This year we also welcomed a new bowls Co-ordinator, Daniel Hill and under his guidance we have seen a great improvement in bowls and the stability of our bowling members. We appreciate your support of our bowlers and look forward to your continuing input to enhance and improve our bowls and on the green.
Our greens and club surrounds have again been excellently maintained by Greg Geise and his crew - we thank you for your outstanding work which is appreciated by all.
Many of our members and patrons freely provide valuable support to this club. We thank our substantial volunteer workforce who provided their time freely for the benefit of our Club. The Board certainly appreciates your support and you are to be congratulated on your amazing efforts, thank you all!
Valued bowlers and your guests, thank you again for your continuing support and your assistance in supporting our club’s direction. You are the heart of our club and we look forward to enjoying bowls and great times with you, our friends.
Sympathy:
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend our sympathy to the family and friends of our members who passed away in the last twelve months. To those who are currently ill, we wish you a speedy recovery and good health.
Moving forward:
I wish to extend my best wishes to all nominees standing for election at the upcoming AGM. CHARLESTOWN BOWLING CLUB LIMITED
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE’S REPORT ON THE 2017-2018 FINANCIAL YEAR
As the director of Finance, I am pleased to provide this report for the year ended 30th June 2018. In Summary: Profit 2017 2018 Operating Profit (Before Provisions and Depreciation) 719,774 691,363 Provisions & Depreciation (934,923) (1,088,149) Net Profit/ (Loss) (215,149) (396,785) As a not for profit entity, it is the operating cash profit that reflects the trading performance of the Club being $691,363 for the Year Ending June 2018. Down $28,411 from the previous year. The increase in net loss is largely attributable to increased trading wages, operating expenses and provision charges despite the large increase in bar and restaurant sales and a small decrease in poker machine revenue. Net Assets The Club remains in a strong financial 2017 2018 position with net assets of: 17,768,604 17,371,819 Total Income 2017 2018 6,736,845 7,077,131 Liquidity Quick Ratio 2017 2018 Measures the short-term liquidity of the Club With a positive ratio, this means the club can pay its immediate debts. Current Assets and Investments 1,750,728 1,535,021 Current Liabilities 645,988 882,727 Ratio 2.71 1.74

Summary of Statement of Cash Flows 2017 2018 Net Cash Flows from Operating Activities 669,507 631,859 Cash Flows from Investing Activities (1,154,574) (622,121) Cash Flows from Financing Activities (2,534) Net Increase in cash held (485,067) 7,204 This is important for all members to note. The cash flow from operations is invested back into the club in the forms of capital expenditure (mainly poker machine upgrading and improvements to building and grounds). As with all not for profit entities profits are re-invested back in to the organization, in our club’s case the capital improvements mentioned above. INVESTMENTS 2017 2018 Term Deposits > 3 months 1,311,336 1,017,179 Future for our Club It should also be noted our club is debt free and all Capital expenditure is met from our trading profits and investment reserves. The recently completed 4-year cash flow and profit and loss budgets to June 2022 show continued strong cash surpluses to fund future capital expenditure and are very encouraging and with the continued support of members will be achieved. In order to remain competitive and progress your club, The Board along with the CEO are looking at identifying new streams of income (diversification). I thank my fellow board members, Michael Gray (Secretary Manager) and his staff for their assistance in the past financial year. Yours Sincerely John Sanderson Director of Finance

CHARLESTOWN BOWLING CLUB LIMITED SECRETARY MANAGERS REPORT
Having now been at the Club for nearly three years I think it is important to reflect back on how the Club has grown during this period. The figures below highlight some key areas of the Club and how they have grown.
2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 % +/-
Bar Sales 1,549,645 1,773,265 1,883,282 22%
Bistro Sales 1,290,409 1,604,284 1,790,909 39%
Memberships 5,842 6,597 7,214 23%
PM revenue 2,755,668 2,765,708 2,741,930 -.05%
Total Revenue 6,095,927 6,736,845 7,077,131 16%
The figures above show that the Club is growing and trading well. This is true, however unlike other Clubs we have a much larger depreciation schedule of just under $1,000,000. When this is taken up in our accounts the Club reports a loss however when in reality it makes a positive operating cashflow profit of nearly $650,000. In addition, the Club supports bowls, which last financial year cost approximately $350,000. The Board continues to allocate Club funds to upgrade and improve facilities. This enables the Club to remain fresh looking, broaden its community appeal and offer more comfortable amenities for members and guests. To all our members and guests who attend the Club thank you for your continued support and making the Club your second home.
This last financial year has seen the following improvements to our club:
1. Upgraded the main lounge furniture. 2. Replaced the large projector TV in the main lounge with a large screen TV, which is the
largest in Charlestown. 3. Purchased 6 additional poker machine licences. 4. Upgraded the TAB with new TV’s and a new layout. 5. New carpet on the Bistro veranda. 6. Upgraded the function room TV projectors. 7. Continued improvements to the Lincoln and Patricia function rooms.
Growth cannot be achieved without the hard work of all the staff. I would like to thank them for their ongoing commitment to the Club. To our team of managers, Head Chef Greg Hawke, Operations Manager Nerida Mark, Greens Manager Greg Geise, Marketing and Events Manager Sarah Wilson, Customer Service Manager Sally Cooper and our Bowls Co-ordinator Daniel Hill thank you for your support. To our supervisors, Garry Lawson, Carly Biggins, Carla Purdon, Jasmin Campbell, Wayne Marsh and their respective staff a big thank you. Your work does not go unnoticed and is much appreciated.
Finally, I would like to thank Jeff Davis and his Board of Directors for their continued support and guidance. They work tirelessly in the best interests of the Club.
Regards
Michael Gray Secretary Manager

CHARLESTOWN BOWLING CLUB LIMITED
AGM REPORT – BOWLS CO-ORDINATOR It is with pleasure that I present the 2018 Lawn Bowls report. What a year we have had on the pennant scene with the midweek 5 grade making the quarter finals and the Saturday 2, 5, and 6 grade all making the playoffs in their respective grades. Our ladies also had success with the 1 and 2 grade teams both winning their way through to the state playoffs where they both represented CBC with pride. Well done to all involved. Well done to all the players that were available for the whole of the season, as well as the players who filled in on short notice throughout the year. It was very pleasing to see all players getting behind all the grades and supporting one another to the very end. Well done to all involved. The Tigers also had success in Zone events with Chris Willingham, David King, and Daniel Hill winning the District Triples; Wayne Marsh and Robert Atkins winning the District Senior Pairs and Wayne Marsh also runner – up in the District Senior Singles. Well done to all players who represented CBC throughout the year and good luck to Chris, David, Daniel, Wayne and Robert when they play in the State Playoffs in September. Well done also to our ladies that have success in the regional playoffs to qualify for the state playoffs in September. Raweang Namutwong and Gayle Gannon will be representing CBC in the State Pairs and Frieda Wells, Lesley Bickford and Gayle Gannon who will be representing CBC in the State Triples. Good luck ladies. Congratulations to all the members who were selected to represent the Club in all the various representative sides for Zone 2, the NSW Bowling Arm and the NSW State sides. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many wonderful members who have lent their assistance to the club to help with all the events that we stage. The support from our members is incredible and without the help of all volunteers throughout the year we would not be able to put on events with success like we do. Special mention must go to Phil Garry for all his hard work behind the scenes from cooking BBQ’s to setting up Bocce rinks. To our Games Committee of Daryl McKinnon, Joe Clement, Jim Cowan, Wayne Marsh, Paul Gray and Milton Rigby, thanks for all your efforts over the past 12 months. Thank you also to all of our umpires who give up their time to help officiate events throughout the year including pennants, club games and tournaments. In closing I would also like to thank Chairman Jeff, CEO Michael and the Board of Directors for their continued support of Lawn Bowls and making our club the envy of others and our fantastic group of staff that go out of their way to make all our bowling members and visitors feel more than welcome whenever they are in the club. For the new members joining the Tigers Den we welcome you to the family and for those leaving the streak we wish you all the best with your continued bowling. Bowls Co-Ordinator Daniel Hill
