The slides for these sessions are on the School Website. Our boys have had a good start to the new year and have settled into their new classes. I have seen how they have also stepped up to help their fellow schoolmates, especially taking care of the Primary One boys who have just joined the family or extending a helping hand to their classmates who had injured themselves during the holidays. As we celebrate 135 years of God’s faithfulness and unstinting blessings, our boys are reminded about God’s Love and how they should take responsibility for themselves, to love and be gracious to others. We continue in various ways to uphold the theme of the year ‘One Hope, One Heart, One ACS’, by teaching the boys to bring hope and love to others beyond the ACS community. 2. In recognition of the different talents and abilities of the individuals, the school will continue to give emphasis to its key areas of focus in the holistic development of our boys. These efforts are in line with our mission to nurture our students with a quality, holistic education, rooted in Christian values, that allows each to reach his fullest potential equipped with life skills to face the future and to serve God and nation.     Primary 6 Team Bonding Activities

    6. As our P6 boys missed their P5 camp last year due to the pandemic, two days of the firstweek were dedicated to building team spirit through team bonding activities as a class, inorder to bring them through this significant last year of their primary school life. Various

    activities were carried out to build love and trust amongst their classmates and to better their skills in the area of collaboration, creative problem solving and communication. The boys truly enjoyed themselves during these activities, showing their integrity and pursuit for excellence. The banner making session was especially rewarding for them as they created beautiful pieces of artwork to be put up in their classrooms to motivate one another. We hope that this team bonding opportunity has created more fond memories of their ACS life for them.

    53rd Annual Swimming Championships

    7. The 53rd Annual Swimming Championships will take place on 5 February Friday. School dismissal is at 11.15am for the whole school. Please take note of the staggered dismissal timing from 11.15 to 11.45am.

    8. Only participants from Primary 3 to Primary 6 need to remain in the school canteen.

    These participants are required to take school transport to and back from ACJC. A separate PG notification will be sent to these parents with more details.

    Total Defence Day Commemoration & Chinese New Year Celebrations

    9. The school will be commemorating Total Defence Day (TDD) and celebrating Chinese New Year (CNY) on Thursday, 11 February. Pupils will be dismissed at 10.15 am. Please take note of the staggered dismissal timing from 10.15 to 10.45am.

    10. This year, the theme for TDD is ‘Together We Keep Singapore Strong’. Activities will be conducted during the CCE & Social Studies lessons over two weeks as part of the curriculum to help pupils understand that their participation in Total Defence is important, and everyone can and should play a part in defending the country. We will encourage our students to put Total Defence into action daily by reaching out to one another, forging new relationships and strengthening existing ones to keep Singapore strong and resilient because our greatest strength lies in the unity and resilience of our people; all the more pertinent, considering the current challenges we are facing as a nation.

    11. There will be a special virtual assembly programme for TDD commemoration as well as CNY celebrations with class-based activities on 11 February. To add to the festive mood, all students are encouraged to wear Chinese traditional costumes to school on that day. Monday, 15 February, is a school holiday. Lessons will resume on Tuesday, 16 February.

    Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) Hong Bao Drive 2021

    12. As part of our initiative to inculcate the joy of giving in our boys, we are working with Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) to support them in their Lunar New Year Hong Bao (Red Packet) Donation drive. We would like to seek your kind support in encouraging your son to donate a portion of his red packet which will be used to benefit several beneficiaries under MWS. MWS runs 20 centres and programmes for over 12,000 underprivileged children, at-risk youth, distressed families, chronically ill, destitute and frail, and the socially isolated. You may visit https://mws.sg for more details on MWS’ centres and services. Your son will be receiving an MWS envelope from his Form Teacher during the last week of January. Please encourage your son to place his donation in the envelope and return the envelope to his Form Teacher after the Lunar New Year from 16th to 19th February 2021 .Please note that for cheques issued, they are to be made payable to: Methodist Welfare Services. Please indicate 'Hong Bao Drive 2021’ on the back of the cheque. We thank you for your kind support. Your support goes a long way to enable MWS to extend help to those in need.

    135th Founder’s Day Service

    13. Our 135th Founder's Day Service and Academic Award Presentations will take place on 1 March 2021. Due to the on-going COVID-19 situation, the school will have a Founder’s Day programme for our students in the classrooms. To celebrate our combined theme of One Hope, One Heart, One ACS, there will be a synchronised online service shown to all schools in the ACS family. Boys are to report to school by 7.30am and will be dismissed from 10.15am. Please take note of the staggered dismissal timing from 10.15 to 10.45am.

    Programme for Active Learning (PAL)

    14. PAL, which started in Week 2 this year, aims to provide enriched learning modules for all P1 and P2 students beyond the curriculum. PAL modules are experiential in nature and incorporate values education and social emotional learning.

    15. The PAL modules cover domains such as Sports, Visual Arts, Drama, Music, Outdoor Education and 21st Century Skills. All PAL modules are facilitated by the Form Teachers of Primary 1 and Primary 2 classes. In addition to the PAL modules, filler activities such as Lifeskills, Cyberwellness, Science and Thinking Skills are incorporated into PAL days to further enrich the students.

    Primary 1 PAL

    Sports - P1 PAL Sports is the learning of social emotional competency through playing traditional games. Examples of traditional games are hopscotch, 5-stones, marbles, etc. During PAL Sports, the boys experience the fun of playing games while learning self-awareness and self-management. They also learn about local culture and appreciate games that have been in existence for many years.

    Visual Arts - P1 PAL Art is the learning of social emotional competency through exploring various types of art medium and materials.

    Drama - The boys are introduced to drama elements through teamwork and experiential learning. They are trained to develop greater confidence when speaking to an audience.

    Primary 2 PAL

    P2 PAL Rugby - The boys learn about cooperation and teamwork when playing rugby. They also learn important values like resilience and discipline while honing their skills. The boys learn to be more aware of their surroundings, environment and their interaction with peers.

    Visual Arts - P2 PAL Art is the learning of social emotional competency through exploring various types of art medium and materials.

    Dance - P2 PAL Dance is the learning of social emotional competency through music and movement.

    Outdoor Education (OE) - The main objective of P2 PAL OE is about appreciating the outdoor environment. Through the various outdoor activities, we hope to nurture the boys to be more at ease outdoors and learn important safety tips and skills. This year, we will continue to teach navigational skills and allow the boys to experience the outdoors.

    School Safety & Security

    Road Safety

    17. Thank you for your co-operation and support to get your child to school on time. To ease

    congestion along Winstedt Road, please park at the nearby car park at Newton and walk your son to and from school. If your child is alighting at the foyer or external lay-by, we seek your understanding to ensure that your child comes out of the car swiftly without holding up the traffic. If you are picking your child after school at the foyer or external lay-by, please also ensure that you come at a time that he has been dismissed and that he will be fetched promptly. This is a gentle reminder that there is no parking in the school compound unless it is for an emergency. Please drive carefully within the speed limit in the school premises and along Winstedt Road. Do be mindful of the zebra crossing within the School Zone.

    Security Pass

    18. We continue to place the safety of our boys as the top priority in school. Thank you for

    displaying your pass prominently when entering the school. This has greatly helped our security staff to manage trespassing. We would like to remind you to continue to wear your pass without demand whenever you are in the campus. Security passes are non-transferrable. If you wish to apply for a pass for your helper or care-giver, please approach the General Office for assistance.

    Changes to PSLE in 2021

    19. To help parents understand the changes better on the new PSLE Scoring and Secondary 1 Posting system, an infosheet on PSLE Changes is attached for your information.

  • CHANGES TO PSLE IN 2021

    • Foundation level subjects support students who require additional help to build up strong fundamentals, giving them confidence to learn at a pace and level suited to them.

    • Foundation level subjects will be graded AL A to AL C under the new scoring system.

    • Starting from the 2020 Primary Five (P5) cohort, school-based examination results of P5 and P6 students will be presented in ALs to help familiarise them with the new scoring system.

    • Secondary schools have the flexibility to offer HMTL to students, if they are assessed to have high ability and interest in MTL, and are able to take HMTL without affecting their performance in other subjects.

    • Students who are eligible for HMTL in Secondary Schools will be based off the criteria below.
