Evaluation

Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

forms and convections of real media products

With these two shots you can see were we have, in our product, we have used convections of our genre used in previous videos that are of the same genre.

Similar types of seating arrangements seen here

Both seen in small groups

Here you can see a very good example of how we developed a form/convection of a real media product

Again this is another example of us using and slightly developing convections used in previous videos similar to ours.

Similar scenery

Similar images used for the CD

Also a few similarities here

Similar web styles

Q2: How effective is the combination of your main product

(music video) and ancillary texts (the website and digipack)?

Products linked together very well through use of colours and image styles.

As we discussed in our research and planning most artists had a particular style. As Icer was a new artist we picked this style for him and kept it consistent from the video to the webpage the CD cover. One of the main styles you notice straight away in the distinctive Black & White effect. It was our original plan to have this just in the video to show the depressing mood but it also worked well with the other product and started to give our artist an identity. Also there was his clothing style, which stayed the same, and his facial expression. He worked hard to make them all so similarly serious. This combination worked quite well as people would be able to identify them easily as being from the same artist. In the music industry this would go well as it would help catch target audience’s attention more easily, making more sales and more money.

Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

A very useful tool for the collection of my feedback was my blackberry, as it made it easy to get hold of my target audience who may not have been available to meet me in person. I sent out 20 evaluation questions and for 15 I asked for them to write their answers. The other 5 I Asked to make a voice recording of their feedback so I could have more detailed feedback and they could fully express their views. Out of all the written feedback I received I picked these two as the most important as they round up the two main points that were being made by all the people who provided feedback.

Here we are praised for the combination of our products, but criticised on our video lighting. This was something that we did notice was a problem in the later stages of construction when we were editing. From this we have learnt to spend more time planning key things like this.

Here again we are praised for creating ‘noticeable similarities’ between all 3 of our products

Here is one voicenote feedbacks that I received. She is able to explain in detail what she felt about our product. She gave quite positive feedback.

Q4: How did you use media technologies in the construction

and research, planning and evaluation stages?

For the collection of our questionnaire results we used a spreadsheet program. This was because we were able to make graphs which made it easier to identify the large or small differences between the answers and what people preferred.

The main media technology we used was Final Cut Pro. This is what we used to bring our clips together, edit them and add effects. We used it effectively to also make neat and smooth transitions between clips. It was not an easy task as neither myself or anyone else on my team had ever used such software before. It took a lot of playing about with to able to use the main functions.

Again with the camera we had no previous experience with such equipment. As I was not in the video I had the main responsibilities for taking all the shots. This meant, me spending a lot of personal time with the camera making myself familiar with it and its key functions. Also I learnt how to use the Tripod.

Another great use of media was the film studio where we hooked up the music and fed it through the large speakers. This studio was very resourceful for us and helped us quite a lot.

My blackberry was also very important. I used it to make myself a schedule that I had to stick to.

It was also very useful for my collection of feedback

I used it to stay in contact with my partners, which was key as communication was really needed for us to complete the project.

Using the scanner also came in handy for bringing my designs onto the computer.

Overall I think we did quite a good job. Especially with the combination of all the products. However if we were do this again there are a lot of improvements that we would make. One of the main being sorting out problems with the lighting and planning more in detail so we knew exactly what we had to do when filming, as we did improvise a lot.
