How will students be graded?

➔ Teachers will award GCSE and A Level grades ➔ No algorithm will be used by exam boards/Ofqual (as it was

in 2020)➔ Teachers will use a range of evidence to award grades,

taken from throughout the GCSE/A Level course➔ Grades will be awarded according to the standard of

students’ work (not the grade that they could have achieved had the exams taken place)

➔ Students will be assessed on what they have been taught ➔ Some external assessments and non-examined assessments

(NEA) for Vocational qualifications will still take place

How will teachers decide grades?

➔ There will be internal moderation of work within each faculty➔ Subject teachers review the evidence and agree the grades as

a team➔ Exam boards will conduct a series of checks to ensure that

grades are awarded fairly and accurately➔ Schools must make sure they have not been overly lenient or

harsh in their assessment of the 2021 cohort - exam boards will review this

➔ BTECs/Cambridge Technical and Vocational Awards will be given one final grade - not unit grades - and any exam results already achieved will only be used as evidence for the TAG if this has no detrimental effect

FAQs

Is there an assessment timetable for Y11? How do Y11 students know when their assessments are due to take place?

Subject teachers have communicated this detail to students directly.

FAQs

Y11 and Y13 assessments are primarily taking place in the classroom; will the students entitled to extra time or other access arrangements (e.g. scribe) still receive this support?

Yes, students are entitled to all of their access arrangements in class-based assessments as they would and will be in exams in the hall. They should make sure that they use the arrangements eg. extra time.

FAQs

When will Year 11/13 students finish?

We are still awaiting DfE guidance and have not decided or communicated a date yet.

Year 13 students may sign off some courses if staff feel they have enough evidence to generate a CAG in that subject eg a BTEC course where grades have been evidenced already by external exam results or coursework completed. In these cases students will be given an exit interview - or time will be allocated to other subjects where evidence is still needed.

FAQs

Will there be a Yr11 end of year celebration or Prom?

We will need to review the restrictions on gatherings in the Summer. It is unlikely that there will be a traditional Prom but we will aim to have a celebration of some kind. Students are currently organising hoodies and the yearbook.

FAQs

How will the CAGs affect Yr11 entry into Sixth Form?

We have interviewed all students and we are holding our first induction sessions after school this week. CAGs will be used to finalise course choices in August but we have adjusted our entry criteria from 5 grade 9-5 to 5 grade 9-4 this year to take into account the disruption to learning students have faced. We will consider each student on an individual basis but ultimately our decisions will be based on a student’s ability to be successful in their chosen pathway. Joining our Sixth Form puts students in a strong position as we already know their strengths and we are therefore making informed decisions about their choices.
