ancillary task movie poster analysis - star trek into darkness
TRANSCRIPT
Colour Scheme
Black is used at the bottom of the page, this
signifies that the man on the bottom is the ‘bad
guy’ also because he is dressed in black this
acknowledges that. Orange and white are used
at the top of the page to show that the three
people at the top are the ‘good guys’.
Position Of Text And Images
The images of the three main characters that
everyone knows are at the top because people
will recognize them and know what the film is.
Underneath there is a character they will not
have seen before, making them want to find
out who he is.
The text is positioned at the bottom so that it
catches your eye.
Film Title Design
The film tile design is bold and it looks like the
title of a sci-fi film because that’s the genre of
the film. A space has been left between the
words ‘Star’ and ‘Trek’ so that it takes up the
same amount of space as ‘Into Darkness’ does.
The letters of ‘Star Trek’ are thinner than the
letters in ‘Into Darkness’.
Institutional Information
The institutional information at the bottom of
the poster shows the date of release in a bolder
text. It also has the Paramount Pictures logo,
showing that it is a Paramount film. In a finer
text it also gives information such as the main
cast and the production crew. It also tells you
when it will be released and that it will be out
in both 2 and 3D.
Application Of Guttenberg Principle
The way the images are positioned on the page
are neat and conformed.
The way the coat flows outwards forms a
leading line, this means that due to the leading
lines and the fact he is in the middle he catches
your eye before the three people at the top
even though they are bigger.
Use Of Iconography
Iconography can be seen in this image by the
use of the three main iconic characters at the
top and through seeing that this film is a
remake of the original ‘Wrath Of Khan’ and
recognizing that that’s who the fourth person
is.
