BRIEF LESSON DESCRIPTION

Students will recall all 206 bones in the human body.

Students will identify similarities and differences in skull structure of animals.

Students will hypothesize how different skeletal adaptations will affect organisms.

TEKS—BIOLOGY Bio 10B—Student is expected to compare the interrelationships of organ systems to each other and to the body as a whole.Bio 7A—Student is expected to identify evidence of change in species using fossils, DNA sequences, anatomical similarities, physiological similarities, and embryology.

TEKS—TECHNOLOGY CONT.

4 (A) use strategies to locate and acquire desired information on LANs and WANs, including the Internet, intranet, and collaborative software7 (B) create and edit spreadsheet documents using all data types, formulas and functions, and chart information7 (H) use interactive virtual environments, appropriate to level, such as virtual reality or simulations8 (E) integrate acquired technology applications skills, strategies, and use of the word processor, database, spreadsheet, telecommunications, draw, paint, and utility programs into the foundation and enrichment curricula

PROCEDUREStudents will use the ADAM software in class for drill and practice while learning the 206 bones in the human body. Students will also use interactive software provided by the textbook company for drill and practice at home. Students will examine models of animal skulls and create a spreadsheet comparing various characteristics of all models provided. Students will visit websites such as www.darwinpond.com to hypothesize on the benefits of different structural adaptations focusing especially on skeletal adaptations.

ASSESSMENT METHODStudents will be graded on the bones with a chapter exam.

Students will be graded on spreadsheet created.

REFLECTION…In spite of Hurricane Ike, I feel that I learned things from this class as well as things about myself. As far as this class is concerned, the main thing I learned is that professors are compassionate and do want me to succeed. I remembered what “all-nighters” feel like. Even though the reading what long and tortuous, I learned so many great ways to integrate technology. I loved having to make the lesson plans because I have a product that I can use. In a normal semester I would have liked to complete several of the projects in the book just because I like making things in class that I can use in my own classroom. I learned that in the face of adversity, I can focus and be successful with the support of those who care.
