The master plan identifies seven character areas of contrasting identity, shaped by their architectural and landscape qualities and the range of uses accommodated. Linked by a high quality public realm, they create a distinctive urban village that respects and enhances its historical, physical and social context. This section of the ARP outlines general site development guidlines related to Land Uses and Residental, Commercial/Public frontage development characteristics. Proposed consolidated parcel and an example of a recommended internal connections. This section illustrates the preferred and refined approach to the distribution of FAR (Floor Area Ratio) across East Village. People of British and French descent constitute more than half the population; there are significant minorities of Chinese, South Asian, German, Italian, American Indian, and Inuit (Eskimo) origin. Languages: English, French (both official). Religions: Christianity (mostly Roman Catholic; also Protestant, other Christians, Eastern Orthodox); also Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism.

Area B:This area is characterizes by itsprimarily residental character and office buildings are not permitted. Potential exists within area B for the Calgary Capmus initiative integrated into mixed use development.

Area C:The transition Area is characterized by its close proximity to the downtown core, and provision has been made to accomodate a greater variety of offices, discretionary commercial, institutional and residential uses.

KEY CORRIDORSKey corridors integrate East Village with its urbanand natural setting. Each corridor has its uniquecharacterizing features that underpin the masterplan’s placemaking strategy.Primary and secondary movement corridors areidentified as part of the hierarchy of circulationinfrastructure and public realm.The diagram below highlights where paths and roadsform the edges and gateways into East Village andwhere key spaces should be located, characterizingthe main pedestrian routes that permeate the site.
