Analysis of SoloDaniel Stean

Mise-en-sceneAs SOLO is a sci-fi web drama it will contain loads of space related objects such as space shuttle, the space setting, an alien like creator, space suits, the master control system and oxygen masks. Most scenes will have an element which will remind the audience that the main concept and theme is sci-fi and space.

Another Mise en Scene is the language and jargon the characters use throughout the video. They constantly use words related to space and other sci-fi words in each shot and in each scene.

SoundAt the start of the episode dramatic music is being played. As its set in space which is quite grand, the music is suited to the setting and it quite loud.

The music is appealing to the audience as its not a normal setting and the music played matches the setting as you can hear the space shuttle moving through space.

There are also sound effects used in actions shots which show the sound of the object being used. In the screenshot the man hits the woman with an object as there is an exaggerated sound to show she has been hit and the object was blunt.

Camera shotsOver the shoulder shot: over the shoulder shots are used to show the point of view of a different character. This will let the viewer see the character from different angle. Over the shoulder shot is used throughout SOLO during a raid as it shows what the raider can see which is vital to the viewer so they can get excited during the raid.

Two shot: a two shot camera angle is where there are two people within a shot. Usually a two shot is used to show two people having a conversation and it will also show what they are looking at. In a two shot power is also show by the height of the character. For example in the screenshot the man with the gun has more power as he has a weapon and the woman has less power as she is lower than the armed man.

Establishing shot: an establishing shot is used at the beginning of a shot or at the beginning of an episode to set the scene throughout the series or episode. In the case SOLO is set in space, I know this as it shows a picture of a shuttle rocket and a space background of starts and space.

Transition/ editingThere are rarely any transition used in the making and editing of SOLO but the ones that are used are for showing that the day time is going into night time or into space. The transition used is a fade and last about 3 seconds.

In SOLO there are no SGI effects used. As its a web drama it will have a low budget and it wont be able to afford SGI effects.

With the use of editing in SOLO it still highlights all key features and makes the scenes tense when they need to be when drama is building and it makes scenes an approiate length without the audience getting bored or them thinking the scene is too short.

How the story is being builtThe story is being built as the start how's a lot of climax and drama of someone strapped to a chair who is being held hostage by an Asian man. Throughout the episode the climax situation gets solved and sets up SOLO for the next episode. Different transition technique and camera shot are used to show drama. For example close up are used to highlight the characters emotions and extreme close up will show an object which is being specifically highlighted.
