OBJECTIVE
• To model a switched reluctance motor drive system with
switched reluctance actuator to control the motor.
• To analysis the chaos generated in the drive system that
can arise for certain parameter variations and the output
waveforms are analyzed and testified to the theoretical
analysis.
SOFTWARE TOOLS
MATLAB R2010a.
PSIM.
SWITCHED RELUCTANCE MOTOR
• A Reluctance motor is a type of electric motor that induces non-
permanent magnetic poles on the ferromagnetic rotor. Torque is
generated through the phenomenon of magnetic reluctance.
• Reluctance motors can have very high power density at low-cost,
making them ideal for many applications. Disadvantages are high
torque ripple when operated at low speed, and noise caused by
torque ripple.
• The phase windings in a SRM are electrically isolated from each
other, resulting in higher fault tolerance compared to inverter driven
AC induction motors.
SRM Design in MATLAB
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONDesign Parameters:Supply voltage V = 150v
Resistance R = 0.01 ohms
Inductance Lmax = 60mH (must be as large as possible)Lmin = 8mH
Phase current, i = 7 amps

CLOSED LOOP DESIGN OF SRM
SWITCHED RELUCTANCE ACTUATOR
Position/ speed sensors provide information to the ECM about the position of a component, the speed of a component, and the change in speed of a component. Position sensor in the switched reluctance motor detects the rotor position. Rotor position sensor gives signal to the controller which generates the switching pulses to the switches at an interval 60deg.

CONCLUSION• The project work carried out has highlighted the detailed
analysis of Switched Reluctance Motor closed loop
model with chaos.
• The design calculations were done manually and verified
by the output of Matlab simulation and PSIM tool.
• Chaos is generated and its behaviour is studied for varies
parameter.
FUTURE WORK
For the above work done, A linear and non-linear
model of SRM will be designed & its chaotic behaviour will
be studied.
The hardware implementation will be developed for
the above designed Switched Reluctance Motor drive with
Actuator and chaotic behaviour will reduced using PWM
technique.
