99 Years of Relentless Journey towards Engineering Advancement for Nation building The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Telecommunication & Information Society Day on 17 th May, 2019 at Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu by organizing a Seminar on theme Bridging the standardization gap.The seminar was attended by a large number of Senior Engineers, Engineers & officers from telecom and other departments/organizations. Sh. Aashutosh Bajaj, CEO & Business Head, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Jammu graced the occasion as Chief Guest . At the outset, Er. Hem Chander Jerath, FIE; Former Chairman, IEI, Jammu Centre apprised the audience about the theme. 04 Nos. Technical Papers were presented by Er. S. C. Thukral, FIE; Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE; Er. Vinod Kumar, MIE and Er. Sachin Tickoo, MIE on the theme. The speakers emphasized that with exponential increase in the number and types of smart devices over the coming years, IoT poses a major challenge for the world in the development of interoperable global standards and for ensuring interoperability and connectivity within a global information infrastructure, ICT standards are urgently required. Further it was highlighted that the access to ICT standards is a critical factor in a country’s global economic competitiveness. Sh. Aashutosh Bajaj, the Chief Guest, while speaking on the occasion enlightened the august audience about the latest developments for bridging the standardization gap in the field of telecommunication and highlighted its benefits for the society. Er. Ajay Gupta appointed as Member (Technical), J&K SERC

Er. Ajay Gupta, FIE; has been appointed as Member (Technical), J&KSERC (J&K State Electricity Regulatory Commission). He has retired as Executive Director, J&K State Power Development Corporation Limited and also remained as Chairman of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre for the term 2015 – 2017.

He was administered the oath of the office of Member, J&KSERC on 7th June, 2019 at Srinagar by Sh. K. K.

Sharma, Advisor to Hon’ble Governor of J&K State.

Pertinently he is the 2nd Engineer from J&K Power Development Department to be appointed to this coveted post. Earlier, Er. D. S. Pawar, FIE; Former Chief Engineer, J&K State Power Development Department was the 1st Engineer to hold this distinction of getting appointed as Member, J&K SERC.

Er. Ajay Gupta has served as Chief Engineer/Executive Director for more than 11 years in J&K Govt. He is Life Member of ISKCON International, Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Jammu Club, Royal Spring Golf Course, Srinagar & Jammu Tawi Golf Course. He is also an empanelled Arbitrator with the Institution of Engineers (India) & Fellow of ICA.

This Centre congratulates Er. Ajay Gupta for this achievement and wishes him stupendous success as Member, J&KSERC.

The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Environment Day at Channi Himmat, Jammu on 5th June, 2019. A seminar on the theme “Air Pollution” was organized in which large number of engineers, scholars, academicians, Environment lovers, and members of the civil society participated.

On this occasion, Dr. C. M. Seth, IFS, Member, AYUSH Review Committee, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India & Former Chairman,

WWF – India & J&K State Pollution Control Board was the Chief Guest and Prof. Raj K. Rampal, HOD Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu & Er. Lalit Kumar Mengi, FIE , Former Chief Engineer, PWD, R&B, Jammu were the Guests of Honour.

In the beginning, Er. Ravi Chanyal, FIE Chairman, Jammu Centre deliberated on the theme and Er. Vijay Kr. Sharma, MIE, Honorary Secretary presented the Welcome Address.

Seven Papers on the theme were presented by Er. K. R. Suri, FIE; Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE; Er. Vinod Kumar, MIE; Er. Sunil Seth, MIE; Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE; Er. Khalid Tanveer, MIE and Er. Akash Dusgotra, AMIE.

Dr. C. M. Seth, IFS, Chief Guest, Prof. Raj K. Rampal, & Er. Lalit Kumar Mengi, FIE , Guests of Honour while speaking on the occasion stressed that the problem of Air Pollution can only be overcome if every individual contributes towards its prevention by actively participating in the schemes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

52nd Engineers’ Day 15th September, 2019

THEME: “Awaited”

The Interested corporate members /colleague engineers & engineering students are requested to submit their papers by 25th August 2019 for the above mentioned activity, so that the same are listed for presentation.

They are further requested that in their papers/power point presentations theme topic should be adhered to and focus should be on the Local problems and new innovative ideas be suggested instead of downloading the content from Internet.

The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre has created facilities at Institutional Complex, Sector – 3, Channi Himmat, Jammu which comprises of 06 Nos. AC Double Bed Rooms, 01 No. AC Lecture Hall and 01 No. AC Auditorium. In addition to this, there is an Air Conditioned library which can be used by the AMIE students and other engineers of this region for consulting the latest technical books for updating their knowledge.

The rooms can be utilized by the Corporate Members of the Institution for their/their guests’ use. For information of our readers, this Centre is pleased to announce that now these Guest House rooms will also be available to non engineer members. Lecture hall and Auditorium can be utilized for techno–commercial activities like Technical Seminars, Commercial Exhibitions, Science Exhibitions, Book Fairs, etc. related to engineering/technological fields and the like. Further, corporate members of this Centre are informed that now Auditorium Hall will also be available to them for small parties and mini functions with restriction that DJs/Music systems will not be allowed to be played inside it.

It is pertinent to mention here that “Donation to the Institution is exempted from Taxable Income of the donor under Section 80G(5) (vi) of Income Tax Act.

Hence engineers of this region are requested to donate generously for the upliftment of Jammu Local Centre.

AMIE Section – A & B Summer Session examination were held at Govt. Boys Hr. Secondary School, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu from 1st June to 7th June, 2019.

The Centre is grateful to Principal (Officer-In-Charge) and staff of the school who remained associated for extending full cooperation for smooth conduct of the examination.

Er. R. B. Khajuria passes away

Er. Rajeev Bhushan Khajuria,MIE breathed his last on 2nd May, 2019. He is survived by his wife, two daughters & a son. He was born on 31st December, 1947 in Jammu. He did his earlier schooling from Shri Ranbir Hr. Sec. School and was a brilliant student since childhood. He got 1st position in Hr. Sec. Examination in 1964. Later, he did his graduation

in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University and passed out in 1970. He had also done Diploma in Management.

He started his service career in 1971 as Pool Officer in J&K Mechanical Stores & Procurement Department & subsequently retired as Superintending Engineer from Mechanical Engineering Deptt., J&K Govt.

He remained quite active even after retirement and served the civil society as one of the key & active member of Rotary Club. Pertinently, he remained as President as well as Assistant Governor of Rotary Club and organized various camps for welfare of the people. Besides this, he was also Permanent Member of Jammu Club which is considered as an elite service class officers’ club of J&K State.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Er. R. B. Khajuria was son of Sh. Ram Nath Shastri who was a renowned figure in Dogra History and was a Padam Shri Awardee. He along with his brothers kept the legacy of his father alive & started an annual award on the name of his father to be given to Dogri Writers under the annals of Dogri Sanstha, Jammu.

This Centre expresses its deepest condolences on his sad demise and prays to Almighty God to grant peace to his departed soul and courage to his bereaved family members to bear this colossal loss.
