2. What is HSK?

  • The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is a worldwide Chinese proficiency test set by the Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China. It is similar to TOEFL or IELTS. The HSK certificate is the only officially recognized Chinese proficiency certificate when foreigners apply to study and work in China.

  • TheYCT I is intended for young students who have studied Chinese for three months, with 2-3 class hours per week. These students have mastered 80 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.

YCTI 6. YCT II

  • The YCT II is intended for young students who have studied Chinese for a semester (half an academic year), with 2-3 class hours per week. These students have mastered 150 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.

  • The YCT III is intended for young students who have studied Chinese for two semesters (one academic year), with 2-3 class hours per week. These students have mastered 300 common words and related grammar patterns

8. YCT IV

  • The YCT V is intended for young students who have studied Chinese for more than two semesters, with 2-3 class hours per week. These students have mastered 600 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.

10. HSKI

  • The HSK I is intended for students who have studied Chinese for a semester (half an academic year), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 150 commonly used words and basic grammar patterns.

11. HSKII

  • The HSK II is intended for students who have studied Chinese for two semesters (an academic year), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 300 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.
  • HSK 2-3 300

12. HSKIII

  • The HSK III is intended for students who have studied Chinese for three semesters (one and a half academic years), with 2-3 class hours in each week. These students have mastered 600 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.HSK 2-3 600

13. HSK IV

  • The HSKIV is intended for students who have studied Chinese2-4 class hours per week for four semesters (two academic years). These students have mastered 1,200 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.

14. HSKV

  • The HSK (Level V) is intended for students who have studied Chinese 2-4 class hours per week for more than two academic years. These students have mastered 2,500 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.

  • The HSKVI is intended for students who have mastered 5,000 or more commonly used words.

  • Candidates who are non-Chinese citizens with outstanding scores may be awarded with the Confucius Institute Scholarships. Winners will be granted scholarships to study in China for one academic year, one semester or one month respectively.
  • To encourage the positivite of overseas students to learn Chinese and take part in Chinese Test, Hanban sets up a project Chinese Test Summer Camp from 2008. All examination candidates who take the abovementioned test abroad are eligible to apply for Chinese Test Summer Camp.
