“An inspiration is of little value if it is not carried into
realization.” So wrote Edward Bok in his personal forward
to his Sanctuary Booklet. I hope that the following selection of
learning opportunities will inspire you to participate, share
ideas, knowledge and, most of all, bring enjoyment.
Tickets will be mailed and include date, time and place
of program. Programs held at the Gardens include all-day
admission and members receive a discount. Please show the
program ticket at the gate instead of your membership card.

Many thanks to freelance nature
photographer and writer Arthur
Morris for the use of his stunning
roseate spoonbill photograph
that graces our cover. The former
New York City teacher moved
to Central Florida to pursue his
driving passion – photographing
birds. “I simply try to create
art, to make images that put a
smile on people’s faces,” says the author of “The Art of Bird
Photography” and “The Art of Bird Photography II.” A contract
photographer for Canon, the generous sponsor of his art exhibit,
he joined its prestigious Explorers of Light program in 1995. He
says what truly makes him a success is hard work, giving back to
his students and taking every opportunity to connect with new
people and diversify his reach. We’re honored to welcome him to
the Gardens.

Art in the GardensArt exhibits at the Visitor Center Lobby Gallery are included in general Gardens admission. The Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most art on display is for sale, and additional art prints and other merchandise may be available at the Tower & Garden Gift Shop.
Interiors of FloridaOctober 3 – December 3Terry Klaaren, Tampa
Award-winning Tampa Bay artist Terry Klaaren is recognized for his style of realistic impressionism. Capturing natural areas of Florida that are rapidly being developed and disappearing, Terry’s artwork preserves the raw beauty of our environment. Also a cartoonist, illustrator, wall muralist and an art demonstrator-educator for nearly four decades, his murals adorn schools, homes, businesses and public buildings.

Orchids in PaintDecember 5 – January 28Gary Gessford, Lakeland
An artist and studio owner for more than 30 years, Gary Gessford has painted, taught, lectured and exhibited in Florida, Washington, D.C., Paris, France and in Germany where he received a six month fellowship. Bursting with color, his larger than life paintings of orchids brighten any room. The interplay between the color, light, form and texture of the subject moves me. How I feel when those inspirations flow out through my medium onto the canvas or paper captivates me always.

David Price is a self taught artist. His art and 26-year career in public gardens was inspired when, as a child, he visited Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina and saw the stone and bronze sculpture displayed in a garden setting. His bronze sculptures capture the form and function of anatomy and convey the attitude of the subject. His work is represented in both private and public collections. David first served as the director of horticulture and currently is the president of Bok Tower Gardens.
