Goal Setting
What are they? When and why can/should I use them?
Goal setting is just a process. But it is a very
important and personal process that helps you get what you really want out of life.
Want to know about goals and goal setting?
People who set goals have a
clear direction towards their chosen destination – people who succeed have
goals, and people who have goals
succeed
Is there a link between success and goals?
Work out what you really want– this is
personal. Work out a plan of attack– how you will get to
the goal. Give you the motivation to put your plan into
action Keep track of where you are going by helping
you focus on the ‘big picture’ to ensure you don’t lose your direction
Knowing about goals helps you:
Goals are well-defined targets that give you
direction and motivation – they are your road map to success (that is, what YOU consider to be success),
your life’s plan, your personal guide to the
future!
Developing a new skill Improving your current skills Beating old habits Developing good habits Producing an outcome like achieving your
dream
Goals can be focused on:
Get the ‘Big-Picture’ first, and always keep your
eye on it. Work out what you REALLY want, not what you
think you want. Work out what you can realistically do and
achieve.
How to set goals? Like all things, its actually quite simple – once you’ve done the ground work,
which is:
What’s the 'big-picture' What do you want and what can you achieve Set SMART goals based on achieving what you
really want Prepare action plans that allow you to launch into
action Monitor the progress of your goals.
The process of setting goals is a never ending one – it changes as your needs change, as you mature or if your life
situation changes.
S – specific M – measurable A – action oriented R – reasoned and realistic T – time-bound E – ethical, exciting and enjoyable R – resourced
