2014 India Auto Expo ‐ Westport and Tata MotorsFeature Alternative Fuel Engines
At the 2014 India Auto Expo this past week in Greater Noida City (near New Delhi), Westport was a featured partner in Tata’salternative fuel option display. The event showcases natural gas engine and technology, with about 75,000 visitors attendingeach day of the five day long show from February 7 11.
In addition to Tata, many of India’s major original vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) participated in the Expo, including Mahindra,Scania, and Eicher.
A justannounced addition to Westport, portfolio, Westport Gas Enhanced Methane Diesel technology – Westport GEMDi™ –codeveloped with Tata Motors, was on display in Tata’s next generation 5L NG Dualfuel engine.

Targeted for mediumduty trucks and buses in India, GEMDi enables OEMs to offer a fully integrated, high performanceengine optimized for dual fuel operation.
Also on display was a new sparkignited (SI) natural gas 3.8L turbocharged engine featuring the Westport WP580 EngineManagement System (EMS). Designed to support many engine configurations, the WP580 EMS is expected to feature inTata’s 5.7L engine for mediumduty applications, starting in late 2014.
India is one of the world’s largest commercial vehicles markets. Its total annual lightduty vehicle fleet and commercial salesare projected to reach over 204,000 units in 2014, according to the Natural Gas Vehicles report published by NavigantResearch in June 2013. The country’s total annual medium and heavyduty truck and bus sales are projected to reach over289,000 units in 2014, according to the Natural Gas Trucks and Buses report published by Navigant Research at the end of2013.
