Piankeshaw DAR Meeting
Scott Giltner, Charlie Scott and Vic Bitter took the SAR show to the Piankeshaw DAR Chapter meeting in New Albany,
Indiana. They showed a video that included events where the SAR and DAR were working together, discussed some of our
flags and played a fife duet. The meeting was held at the Scribner House, the oldest frame house in New Albany.
Wellington Elementary School--John Clay Barnett
John Clay Barnett did his show and tell program
twice at the Wellington Elementary School. Two
different classes benefited from John’s informative
presentations. The students are involved, as you
can see from the pictures--holding the gun and helping display the flags.
A nice note was received from the school thanking
J.C. for helping the students learn about early
American history.

Center for Advancing America’s Heritage
University of the Cumberlands
Over 1000 students from schools in Eastern Kentucky were bused to the University of the Cumberlands to take part in a
Center for Advancing America’s Heritage program. Six members from the Gov. Isaac Shelby Chapter (Tom Higgins, Vic
Bitter, Chuck Scott, Forrest Chilton, John Clay Barnett and Charlie Scott) took part in the three day event. Tom, Vic and
Charlie manned the flag station. One of the benefits at this station was having “Betsy Ross” tell the students about her flag.
The pictures show Vic folding a flag with Tom and Tom and Vic standing with “Betsy” by her flag.
John Clay Barnett, Chuck Scott and Rev.
Forrest Chilton ran the station where the
students learned about how the soldiers
dressed, the weapons used and what items
were carried in the soldiers haversacks.
