CNRS The French National Center for Scientific Research

publicly-funded research organization 26,000 employees (among which 11,600 researchers and 14,400 engineers

and technical and administrative staff) 1,260 service and research units budget for the year 2004 = 2.214 billion euros Vocation

producing knowledge and making it available to society definig new domains of scientific investigation by developing collaboration

between specialists from different fields of expertise: interactions between

physics and chemistry of living forms, materials, biotechnologies, environment,

urban matters, health, telecommunications and communication. 8 scientific departments that cover all fields of knowledge

I3 Research Group of CNRS

Information-Interaction-Intelligence

One of the 5 research groups of the STIC department of

CNRS whose vocation is to mobilize researchers on precise

themes

The objectives of the group consist in defining and acquiring expertise on concepts, methodologies, technics sharing between various communities assembling researchers and industrialists around projects

about 900 students, researchers and industrialists, from more

than 150 research and development units of CNRS, INRIA

and INSERM

VERSIM Objectives

to identify the elements common to future french research about

Modeling and Simulation and about Computer Aided System

Theory

to describe the state of the art in France

to give the precise situation of M&S french research within the M&S

international research

to participate in projects and form research networks

Fundamentally multidisciplinary group

Accessible for any researcher from any domain that uses or develops

problem solution methods based on simulation

Working

The works are realized

both on collaboration via internet

and on the form of meetings

The reunions use to take place in any site in France : Marseilles,

Montpellier, Toulouse, Sophia-Antipolis, …

The mean number of participants of each reunion is 25 persons.

The frequency is about three reunions a year

VERSIM McLeod Modeling and Simulation Network July 2005

Activities / Results Cooperating with our colleagues at the University of Genova in creating

and organizing the International Mediterranean Modeling

Multiconference I3M. The first conference was held in Genoa last year.

This year’s conference will be held in Marseilles.

Cooperating with Pr. Tuncer Oren on the french part of the French-

English-Turkish M&S dictionary to be published soon.

Defining an M&S terminological dictionary.

Working on the development of a French M&S course as part of our

M&S curriculum development.

Working on formal integration and virtual laboratories.
