Sample Menu

Original Recipe For Sloppy Joe (6 servings)

• 1 ½ pound ground beef• 1 onion, sliced• ½ teaspoon salt• 1/8 teaspoon pepper• 2 tablespoons mustard• 8 oz tomato sauce• 6 oz tomato paste• 14 inch loaf French bread

Scale Factor = 6

• Ground beef

• 1.5 pound for 6 = ____ pounds for 1

• Divide 1.5 by 6 and you get 0.25 pounds

• Or with fractions:

• 3/2 6 (keep, change, flip) = 3/2 x 1/6 = 3/12 = ¼ pound

Onion

• 1 onion for 6: ____ onion for 1

Salt

• ½ teaspoon salt for 6: 1/12 teaspoon salt for 1

• ½ 6 = ½ x 1/6 = 1/12

Pepper

• 1/8 teaspoon for 6: 1/48 teaspoon for 1

• That would be a very small amount – dash of pepper

Mustard

• 2 tablespoons for 6: 1/3 tablespoon for 1

• 2 6 = 2 x 1/6 = 2/6 = 1/3 tablespoon

Tomato sauce

• 8 oz for 6 = 1 1/3 oz. For one or 8/6 or 4/3

Tomato paste

• 6 oz for 6: 1 oz for 1

• 6 6 = 1 oz.

French bread
