QR Codes make this possibility easier and more accessible!

Translation: Quick Response Codes They are mobile (and tablet) compatible

readable two-dimensional barcodes. Allows an individual to link to important

information relative to what is originally being viewed.

Originally used for tracking purposes with automotive manufacturers.

Expanded with implementation of advertisers and in the marketing field to promote products.

GIS Mapping Educational Settings

Mobile devices with cameras or tablets (i.e., iPads)

Internet Connection (via the school’s wireless network or cell phone provider’s data plan)

QR Generation website or software (i.e., www.qrstuff.com)

QR Code Reader apps on mobile devices.

QR Codes can be

printed on paper

Downloaded/uploaded to/from websites as image files

Emailed to individuals

Instructional Video on YouTube

Rules and guidelines for mobile device and internet usage must be enforced with all students.

Loaner iPads or cell phones must be provided for students who do not own them or devices should be shared among students.

Computers must be available to research websites and to use QR code generation software.

History

Student can include QR codes to their written assignments to link to images that reference the subject matter (NJCCCS: 6.1 U.S. History: America in the World All students will acquire the knowledge and skills to think analytically about how past and present interactions of people, cultures, and the environment shape the American heritage. Such knowledge and skills enable students to make informed decisions that reflect fundamental rights and core democratic values as productive citizens in local, national, and global communities.

Language Arts

QR Codes can direct students to translations of English words to another language (or vice versa!)

(NJCCCS: 7.1 World Languages All students will be able to use a world language

in addition to English to engage in meaningful conversation, to understand and interpret spoken and written language, and to present information, concepts, and ideas, while also gaining an understanding of the perspectives of other cultures. Through language study, they will make connections with other content areas, compare the language and culture studied with their own, and participate in home and global communities. )

Music, Dance and Theater

A QR code can be displayed below a media player which is playing an international song; this can direct students to a website displaying a song’s native culture. (NJCCCS: 1.3 Performance All students will synthesize those skills, media, methods, and technologies appropriate to creating, performing, and/or presenting works of art in dance, music, theatre, and visual art. )

GIS Mapping

Students can travel to various areas of their choice within their state of residence of part of a geo-science or geography project. Pictures can be taken in their field trip and a QR code can display where the picture was taken on a internet-based map (i.e., Google maps).

(NJCCCS: 5.4 Earth Systems Science: All students will understand that Earth

operates as a set of complex, dynamic, and interconnected systems, and is a part of the all-encompassing system of the universe. )

Art

QR codes can be displayed below a piece of art so that students can retrieve artist biographies from a website.
