CENTRAL West Performing Artsstudents can expect to learn in afriendly and caring environmentunder the supervision of fully-qual-ified teachers.

The teachers at Central WestPerforming Arts each have a finereputation for preparing dancers toenter the professional industry, butalso recognise that for some stu-dents dance is for fun and fitness.

All students are offered thechance to perform at eisteddfodsand the annual end-of-year concert.

The school also prides itself onthe ability to turn students intotriple threats with dancing, singingand acting all on offer.

tional results in 2013 with specialcongratulations going to MyriamKwa and Paris Robinson, who haveagain been accepted into the presti-gious Australian Ballet SchoolInterstate Programme for theirthird year running.

Congratulations also going to the12 Years Jazz Group who won BestJunior Group at WellingtonEisteddfod and also to the JuniorContemporary Group who wonBest Open Group at BathurstEisteddfod.

LET’S DANCE: Kingfisher School Gear has a huge rangeof dance wear, dresses and gifts for dancers.

THE Orange SocialDance Group begannearly 30 years agowhen a group of peoplewho enjoyed dancing,having fun and social-ising decided theywould form a club anda committee, with theaim of providing adance every week.

They encouragedanyone interested tojoin in and realised thatteaching people todance and keeping upwith new dances wouldalso be required.

The dance group does New Vogue or sequencedancing, which includes Ballroom, Latin and newvogue. You may recall dances such as the Pride ofErin, the Gypsy Tap and the Evening Three Step, wellthey are sequence dances where all the dancersform a circle as couples and the dance progressesaround the circle. They also dance the waltz, foxtrotand quickstep and even the rhumba and jive.

Social dancing is just that, dancing for enjoy-ment only, there are no competitions and no exams.

The Orange Social Dance group meets everyThursday night at the Orange City Bowling Clubwhere lessons for beginners are offered from 7pm to8pm. The night continues with social dancing from8pm to 10pm.

Orange Social Dance Group will resume onThursday, January 16 and the first night for lessonsfor beginners will be Thursday, February 6.

The first night is free and then $5 per person perweek, which covers expenses. The group uses musicon CDs most nights and generally has live musiconce a month. Dancing for funAT THE Orange Dance Centre, principal Kylie

Haigh and teachers Melissa Garnaut, Jen Foley andEmily Goodwin share the vision that all students needto enjoy every aspect of their dance training.

“The students absolutely love performing, but it isimportant their classes at the studio every week areenjoyable experience,” Mrs Haigh says.

“If students enjoy coming to class it is far morelikely they will continue with their dance classes formany years, something which is a key factor in devel-oping good deportment as well as dance skills.”

Students are offered a variety of dance styles fromjazz to tap, modern, contemporary, hip hop, classicalballet and stretching and limbering. As well, a servicefor wedding couples is offered to teach their weddingdance in the lead up to the big day.

Students of the Orange Dance Centre have manyopportunities throughout the year to perform andalways take part in the City of Orange Eisteddfod.

Girls and boys can start classes from the age ofthree right through to adults.

Indeed the adult classes, held in the evenings, haveremained very strong at the Orange Dance Centreover several years, with class members enjoying enor-mously the social aspect of dancing for fun.

As well, students perform in the annual end of yearconcert at the Orange Civic Theatre, which takes on anew theme every year.
