TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language

The minimum score on the TOEFL IBT (internet-based testing) required for admission to IUBH University of Ap-

plied Sciences is 80 of 120 possible points. Your TOEFL score must be submitted before you start your studies

and must not be older than two years when you start your studies. You must submit an original copy of your

“TOEFL Score Report”.

The test has four parts:

Listening: 60 - 100 minutes

Reading: 60 - 90 minutes

Writing: 50 minutes

Speaking: 20 minutes

TOEFL-Test-Centres are located throughout Germany, for example in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Ham-

burg, Hannover and Mannheim. There are also test centres close to the Bad Honnef campus, for example in

Bonn and Siegburg. Test dates can be found online at www.toefl.org.

In preparation for the TOEFL test we recommend Barron's “How to Prepare for the TOEFL IBT”. This material is

available at bookstores in printed or CD-ROM format.

The fees for the TOEFL IBT in Germany are currently $ 240,- (approx. €230,-)

To have the TOEFL score report sent directly to our university use the university code 0090.

IELTS – International English Language

The minimum score on the IELTS-Test (academic version) required for admission to IUBH University of Applied

Sciences is 6.0 points from a maximum of 9.0 possible points. Your IELTS results must be submitted before you

start your studies and must not be older than two years when you start your studies. You must submit an origi-

nal copy of your “IELTS Score Report”.

The test has four parts:

Listening: 30 minutes

Reading: 60 minutes

Writing: 60 minutes

Speaking: 15 minutes

IELTS-Test-Centres are located throughout Germany, for example in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hannover,

Munich, Berlin and Hamburg. Exact test dates can be found online at www.ielts.org. IELTS preparation materials

(Official IELTS Practice Materials) can be ordered from the British Council (www.britishcouncil.de) or Carl-

Duisberg-Centres (www.cdc.de). The fee for the IELTS-Test is currently € 220,-.

Preparatory course for the IELTS test free of charge: The University of Queensland has developed an 80 hour

preparatory course that also includes interactive training material and video and audio presentations that are

tailored to enhance test-taking skills, strategies and techniques. Course registration:

English for Speakers of Other Languages

CAE – Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English

Passing the CAE qualifies you to study at IUBH University of Applied Sciences. Your CAE results must be submit-

ted before you start your studies and you must submit an original copy of your CAE Score Report.

The test has five parts, each part counts for 20% of the final grade:

Reading: 75 minutes

Writing: 90 minutes

Use of English: 60 minutes

Listening: 40 minutes

Speaking: 15 minutes

There are 56 CAE-Test-Centres in Germany. You can find a test centre in your area online at

All exams and tests are offered at different prices that vary from test centre to test centre, so you will need to

get the exact fee at the respective test centre. Based on experience, the fee ranges from € 180,- to € 200,-.

CPE – Certificate of Proficiency in English

Passing the CPE qualifies you to study at IUBH University of Applied Sciences. Your CPE results must be submit-

ted before you start your studies and you must submit an original copy of your “CPE Score Report“.

The test has four parts:

Reading and Use of English: 90 minutes

Writing: 90 minutes

Listening: 40 minutes

Speaking : 16 minutes, the oral examination is taken together with one or two other

candidates and conducted by two examiners.

BEC Higher – Business English Certificate

Passing the BEC Higher examination qualifies you to study at IUBH University of Applied Sciences. The test certi-

fies proficiency in business English at the upper intermediate level. Your BEC Higher results must be submitted

before you start your studies and you must submit an original copy of your “BEC Higher Report”.

The examination has four parts, each part counts for 25% of the final grade:

Reading: 60 minutes

Writing: 70 minutes

Listening: 40 minutes

Speaking: 16 minutes

PTE – Pearson Test of English (Academic)

The minimum score on the PTE Academic required for admission to IUBH University of Applied Sciences is 56

out of 100 points, with a minimum of 51 points required in each of the three parts. Your PTE results must be

submitted before you start your studies and must not be older than two years when you start your studies. You

must submit an original of your “PTE Score Report”.

The test has three parts:

Part 1: Speaking & Writing (77 – 93 minutes)

Part 2: Reading (32 – 41 minutes)

Part 3: Listening (45 – 57 minutes)
