TO THE BALKANS & BEYOND
The Balkans and Southeastern Europe
SYNOPSIS
On May 2011, 4 Latin-American friends - along with a professional and young film crew - start an adventure
on a journey of discovery through the complex human and physic geography of the Balkans.
Their transport: a car. The pilots: themselves. The travel plan: travel through 13 Southeastern European
countries, in 3 months. Their aim: demystify the image of the countries they are going to visit, revealing the
many faces that are rarely shown: luxuriant nature, ancient history, rich traditions and cultures. Teeming
capitals e quiet villages. Folklore and pop culture. Contrasts and diversity.
The final destiny of this expedition is going to be Guča Festival: one of the biggest music festivals in the
world, exclusively dedicated to trumpet folk music.
Along the way, the 4 travelers and their crew will come across and interview locals as well as personalities,
witness different kinds of events, experience music, culture and tradition of each of these 13 countries and
it’s ethnicities. This expedition will be transformed on a TV documentary series, with potential to be
broadcasted all around the world.

GOALS
Demystify the Balkans and Southeastern Europe, showing through folklore, music and traditions of each of
the 13 visited countries the rich cultural and ethnic diversity that exists in this region of the world, still very
little positively explored by the media.
In big capitals as well as in the most remote villages, the 4 travelers will experience an immersion in the local
way of life, registering everything under a special point of view, always as distant as possible of a mere
touristic standpoint.
