DVD Ripping Using TMPGEncoder Xpress

1. Open the “INPUT” folder on the workstation which is located inside the “E:\” drive. 2. Browse the DVD-Drive contents (see picture below)

3. Create folder for deponent using our normal MPEG naming scheme and copy the contents of the “VIDEO_TS” folder.

4. The copying process should take about 10 minutes

5. Start “TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress” by double clicking the icon.

6. If you get this message, click on the “Obtain a license” button. Do not erase or change the serial number.

7. Click on “Source” on the top and then click on “Source Wizard”

8. Select “DVD-Video, DVD-VR or DVD-RAM” as your source type selection, then click “Next”.

9. Select your “VIDEO_TS” source folder and then click “OK”.

10. The video chapter will be shown and selected by default. In this example, the DVD has only one chapter. Then click “Next”.

11. Make sure that the following options are not selected, and click “OK”.

12. Under the clip settings, name the clip name using the standard naming scheme. Then click “OK”.

13. The chapter selected will added to the “Clip list” along with the name that it was entered. Now click on “Format”.

14. On the “Output Format Selection” click on “Video-CD standard MPEG file” format and

click “Select”.

15. All the options should be selected and it will look like this. Now click on “Encode”

16. At this point, you are ready to rip and encode your DVD video into an MPEG-1 format file. Make sure that your output destination is “E:\Output\[FILENAME]” and click “Start Encoding”.

17. Proof the output MPEG. It is imperative that you proof the output video by normal

TG Standards by checking for video quality, audio quality, Audio Slip (Godzilla effect) and sticking.

18. Once the output video has been proofed, delete the source VOB files from the Input

folder (ie: Video_TS folder)

Output Preview TMPGEncoder allows us to have (3) types of previews during the encoding session: 1. Partial Preview 2. Preview All Possible Frames 3. No Preview In order to access these types of previews, right click on the preview monitor and select “Preview Frequency”, then select the preview that you want. It is recommended to select “Partial Preview” when encoding.

Encoding multiple DVDs In order to encode multiple DVDs, you can copy the contents of the second DVD into the “Input” folder of the workstation and start a second instance of TMPGEncoder Xpress simply by double clicking the icon again from the desktop. Once the application is launched, follow the same steps and start the encoding process. As a rule of thumb, we should be encoding up to (2) DVDs per workstation to ensure video creation quality.

Fixing Single Channel

1. Start “TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress” by double clicking the icon.

2. If you get this message, click on the “Obtain a license” button. Do not erase or change the serial number.

3. Click on “Source” on the top and then click on Add file.

4. Select the single channel mpegs to be converted.

5. If multiple mpegs were selected click ok.

6. Select edit on the first mpeg to be fixed.

7. Click on “Filters”.

Click on the “Open a template”

8. Choose the template for whether the mpeg is right or left channel only,

9. Click ok

10. Go back and repeat steps 6-10 for the remaining mpegs.

11. Click on “Format”

12. On the “Output Format Selection” click on “Video-CD standard MPEG file” format and click “Select”.

13. All the options should be selected and it will look like this. Now click on “Encode”

14. Make sure that your output destination is “E:\Output\[FILENAME]” and click “Start Encoding”.

15. Proof the output MPEG. It is imperative that you proof the output video by normal TG Standards by checking for video quality, audio quality, Audio Slip (Godzilla effect) and sticking.

16. Once the output video has been proofed, Place the original into the replace folder in

the job folder

It is recommended to select “Partial Preview” when encoding.

Batch Converting Client Originals

1. Open the “Input” folder or the “Video Dump on the workstation 2. Browse the DVD-Drive or CD contents

3. Copy the client provided mpegs to the input folder.

4. Proof mpegs for single channel, sticking and Godzilla. Rename deponents

using or normal MPEG naming scheme. 5. Start “TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress” by double clicking the icon.

6. If you get this message, click on the “Obtain a license” button. Do not erase or change the serial number.

7. Click on “Source” on the top and then click on Add file.

8. Select the mpegs to be converted.

9. Click Yes.

10. The mpegs selected will added to the “Clip list”. Now click on “Format”.

11. On the “Output Format Selection” click on “Video-CD standard MPEG file” format and click “Select”.

12. All the options should be selected and it will look like this. Make sure the “Output mode” is set to Output each clip in a separate file. Now click on “Encode”

13. At this point, you are ready to convert the client provided mpeg into an MPEG-1 format file. Make sure that your output destination is “E:\Output\[FILENAME]” or to the “video dump” and click “Start Encoding”.

14. Proof the output MPEG. It is imperative that you proof the output video by

normal TG Standards by checking for video quality, audio quality, Audio Slip (Godzilla effect) and sticking.

To capture live video

1. Insert your DVD into the Pioneer 510-H DVR. 2. Start Windows Movie Maker on Server Machine. 3. On the File menu, click Capture Video.

In the Movie Tasks pane, under Capture Video, click Capture from video device.

4. On the Video Capture Device page, do the following: • In Available devices, Select the AVC Compliant DV Device.

5. In the Enter a file name for your captured video box, enter a file name for your captured video file. Then, in the Choose a place to save your captured video box, select the location where you want your video to be saved or click Browse to select a location.

6. On the Video Setting page, select Other Settings, then select High quality video (NTSC)

7. On the Capture Video page, deselect the Create clips when wizard finishes check box.

8. To automatically stop capturing after a time period has elapsed, select the Capture time limit check box, and then type or select the length of time you want to capture. Time is displayed in the form of hours:minutes(h:mm).

9. To begin capturing, click Start Capture. 10. Do one of the following:

• To stop capturing, click Stop Capture. • If you have selected the Capture time limit check box, wait for the specified amount of time for video to

be captured. 11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 to capture another segment of live video. 12. Click Finish to close the Video Capture Wizard.

The captured content will be saved in the location which was entered from step 5.

13. Start “TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress” by double clicking the icon.

15. Click on “Source” on the top and then click on Add file.

16. Select the wmv’s to be converted to mpegs.

17. Under the clip settings, name the clip name using the standard naming scheme. Then click “OK”.

18. The wmv selected will be added to the “Clip list” along with the name that it was entered. Now click on “Format”.

19. On the “Output Format Selection” click on “Video-CD standard MPEG file”

format and click “Select”.

20. All the options should be selected and it will look like this. Make sure the “Output mode” is set to Output each clip in a separate file. Now click on “Encode”

21. At this point, you are ready to convert the wmv into an MPEG-1 format file. Make sure that your output destination is “E:\Output\[FILENAME]” and click “Start Encoding”.
