Tips for Hosting a Tropical Destination

Wedding

Host your wedding in the dry season. You don’t want to cancel your event if there’s a hurricane or torrential downpour.

What time should I get married?

Most tropical countries are close to the equator. That means the sun will set rapidly compared to higher or lower latitudes. The best time of of day for a wedding is around 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. so your guests won’t boil and you’ll have time just before sunset for portraits.

Wear Light Clothing

It’s a fact… if you get married in the tropics and there’s humidity you may swell. Leave an inch in your dress in case of swelling (which can even happen on the airplane).Fingers also swell in the heat so be mindful with your wedding rings.

Wear Light Clothing – For Men

Avoid black attire – tan and light-coloured outfits on men look better in a tropical settingAvoid wearing a three-piece suit unless you’re going to have your event in AC. You don’t want to pass out from the heat.

Planning the day

I also think it’s a great idea to have the wedding on the second or third day you arrive. That way you can enjoy the rest of your vacation (and use any alcohol left over) without being distracted by the wedding details. My advice would be to pad in one day for travel delays, then begin the wedding festivities with your rehearsal dinner on the second day, and the wedding day on the third day… leaving the rest of the week for you and your guests to enjoy the country together.

Hire vendors who know the heat

I’ve seen cakes literally melt and makeup literally drip down a bride’s face.Hire a vendor who knows how to handle the heat and humidity.

Photographer

Your photographer is also important as well. Suggestion? http://www.funkytownphotography.com
