Once the ice bucket is removed there is a caution that must be observed before attempting to remove the direct cooling ice maker.

To enter the forced mode, press and hold these 2 buttons on the display panel until the display blanks out. Then press any button until “Fd” appears on the display. This indicates the freezer section as well as the refrigerator section is in the defrost mode.

Using a flat blade screw driver, pry the latch on the left side of the lower I/M tray to release the tray. Once released CAREFULLY pull the tray down. It will not come out as the rear of the tray is attached to the I/M.

Bottom view of the new direct cooling I/M without the water duct drain. The heater is part of the mold but the cooling tube is moved out of the way to remove the I/M from the ice room. When replacing the ice maker the cooling tube MUST fit into the channel provided in the mold or the bottom cover will not close and the mold will not cool properly affecting ice production.

With the auger motor removed, take out the screws that holds the drain in place and move the drain and Styrofoam insulation away.

With the Styrofoam insulation removed both the ice maker drain with heater and the fan can now be removed for replacement. Both components are using connectors that unplug.
Non Replaceable Auger Motor Components
If any of these components in the auger motor assembly fail, the entire assembly should be replaced:

The fan and drain heater can be replaced with minimal disassembly.
Detecting the I/R Transmitter
The ice bucket level I/R transmitter, located in the auger motor assembly, will not throw an error if it fails. To detect if it is working, view the I/R LED through any camera or most any phone that has a camera and you will see it lit.
