Main Objectives

• Increase ease and efficiency of use• Improve aesthetics • Add useful links• Add requirements of and possible applications

of major• Construct calendar for important dates• Provide online application for minor• Provide documentation and support

Task at Hand

At the start of our project the Theology webpage was functional, but the information on the site was out of date and visually uninspiring. Hence, the main focus of our project revolved around updating, enhancing, and improving the existing site.

Steps…

• Listed our objectives and created a time-line via MSProject

• Created diagrams showing the overview and life cycle of the website

• Created a list of questions to ask the department• Attended the faculty meeting and collected

information about the theology website and obtained answers to our questions

• Assigned parts of the website to each group member• Compiled the information together

Diagrams

• Used the object-oriented set of diagrams to model the basic layout of the webpage

• Use-Case: shows interaction of actor with the various functions of the website

• Sequence: shows the messages that are transferred from the actor to the functions

• State Chart: shows the evolution of our online minor application form

Proposed Alternatives

• Use of Macromedia Flash MX instead of CoffeeCup FireStarter

• Use of Macromedia’s Dreamweaver instead of Microsoft FrontPage

• Multiple online forms such as major application and exam make-up application

• Online form information passed to database server instead of to an email

Feasibility

• Technical Can we complete our tasks?

• Economic Is it truly cost effective to produce this page?

• Operational How can we bring students to the webpage so it will be used?

Hardware and Software

• Coffecup Firestarter – version 6.0 • Macromedia Flash – Flash MX itself is not required, but a

connection to the below link is required for Flash movie to run.– http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?

P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">

• MS FrontPage 2002 version 10.2623.2625. MS Paint Windows 98 version. Used to quickly modify images when PhotoShop was unavailable.

• MS Word 2002 version 10.2627.2625• Adobe Photoshop 7..• ACDSee version 3.1b build 10706 from ACD Systems

Online Forms

• Created a form that enables students to declare a Theology Minor online– Information is entered directly by the student and

then sent to Peggy Duffy’s email• Modeled after the paper version of the form that the

Theology Department previously used

Minor Online Form

Minor Online Form

Forms

• Originally planed to have: minor, major, and make-up exam form

• Don’t have use of an access database to collect information, so instead info is emailed and then captured

• The major and make-up test forms were not included on the website because the department decided that the information was too pertinent to submit online

Calendar

• Modified a JavaScript program to meet the requirements of the Theology department

• Added pertinent information to the calendar involving both religious and academic dates and events

• Created a 2002, 2003, and 2004 calendar and they are all linked to the homepage as well as each other (defaults to 2002)

Undergraduate Webpage (Before)
