Natural Resources

• Natural Resources are materials found in nature that can be used by people.

• Each ecosystem has its own unique natural resources.

Renewable vs. Nonrenewable Resources

• Renewable Resource: a natural resource that can be replaced as quickly as it is used up.

• Ex- WIND

• Nonrenewable Resource: a natural resource that is replaced much more slowly than it is used up.

• Ex- COAL

What is the Rock Cycle?

• The rock cycle is a series of processes by which rocks change from one type to another.

Sedimentary Rock

• Sedimentary rocks- form when particles from natural materials get pressed and cemented together.

Igneous Rock

• Igneous rock- forms when magma or lava cools and hardens to become solid.

• Magma- melted rock below the ground• Lava- melted rock above the ground

Metamorphic Rock

• Metamorphic rock- forms when pressure and temperature change existing rock.
