Comparison of a Traditional reading strategy with a technology integration reading strategy.

Mrs. Flunker’s 2nd Grade Hillcrest Elementary School SP2011Shawano, WI

Mrs. Flunker has been Teaching for 22 yrs., and2nd grade for the last two years.

She has never used an I-pod in class before.

Reading Center time 15 minutes

4 children per group2 children on I-pod2children with books

Students were instructed 1-Choose an appropriate reading level book and read.2-Switch after 7 minutes. 3- Before leaving center Students discussed Preferred reading method.

I-pod was previously Downloaded with Dr. Seuss books, as well as other age appropriate books.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss Birthday

Reading levels varied 1-3

Some children had exceptionalities

Some students were gifted/talented

Children had @ 7 minutes on I pod

Engaged

Following directions

Student to student interaction

The next step will be to incorporate the I-pod into their language arts curriculum
