Powerful Catholic church, less educated people.
Feudalism Emerged to protect people from raids.
Kings gave land to nobles.
Nobles gave the king Knights.
Serfs worked the land for protection.
Manoralism Lords lived in large manors and peasants lived around the land.

Pope Urban II wanted to reclaim the Holy Land from Muslims.
The Crusades Pilgrims and armies went from Europe to the Holy Land.
Promised wealth and forgiveness of sins.
