sedies” will be on. The Dodgers and the Yankees will be at it again,and this writer is going out on a limb and pick the Dodgers. This isnot done because of any sentimental feeling for the underdog, but ifrecords mean anything at all, the Bums are in.

A player by player comparison reveals some interesting facts.Here’s how they stack up now:

The Dodgers’ club batting average is 308, and the Yankees’ is 285Based on these figures, the Dodgers are far superior. However, any-thing can happen in a dhort series. Even' in a good year, teams havebeen known to hit slumps and lose a number of games in succession.This happened to both teams this year, but mod notably to the Yanks.Therefore, it would seem that in any short series, a team might blowup.

On pitching records, the Yanks would seem to have the edge.Only Erskine among the Dodger pitchers, has as impressive a recordas at least three or four of the Yanks pitchers. But here again, in ashort series, the Yankee team could fold, and some of the Dodgerpitchers could come up with brilliant performances. Even though theyare not in the record books as top pitchers this year, it is simply follyto discount the power that could come from Joe Black, Clem Labine,Preacher Roe, and Billy Loes. All of them have been known to comethrough in a pinch.

So, on a basis of actual figures, together with impressive per-formances turned in by the Dodger pitching staff, and the depth ofthe Dedger bench, I’lltake them to win over the Yankees.
