Important Things You Need to Know about Mindfulness

Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is known to provide people with a number of benefits. Aside from

helping you relax and de-stress, it can also help you develop a clear mind. In fact, some practitioners are able to develop a better

understanding of their surroundings and their life’s purpose after making meditation a big part of their

routine.

For those who want to try mindfulness meditation, doing it for the first time may prove to

be a challenge. After all, how exactly do you silence your mind and stop it from thinking random thoughts when its main purpose is to think? Here are a few important information about mindfulness

meditation to help you get started.

Meditating based on your life stageTo get the best results, you should consider

meditating according to your life stage. But how do you determine which life stage you are in? The Yoga Sutras offer the most complete definition of life: “first evolution, then involution. Like an eagle, first you flap your wings high, as high as you can flap them, then you bring them down gracefully.”

Evolution (growth): You long to experience the world to the fullest. You want to travel, experience advancement, and achieve success. At this point of your life, you also long to start your own family or your own company, meet new people, or get

new perspectives in life.

remember today, but things happen in his plays: People go insane; they fall in and out of love; they fight battles; they kill their enemies, their lovers,

themselves. I want the fiction I publish to be about engaging reader in what happens next to the characters they read and (I hope) care about.

Involution (silence): The world starts to lose its appeal and something always seems missing even if you

you’re having great achievements. You’re seeking a deeper reality beyond the ups and downs of the typical

worldly cycle.

In every meditation retreat, you’ll meet people who are neither in the evolution nor involution stage.

They’re stuck in tough personal situations — messy break-ups, tough bosses, financial issues

etc.

Learning how to meditate is a good idea but do know that meditation is not designed to help you

with personal drama. The foundation of meditation is morality or love. Without loving yourself first,

you won’t be able to fully enjoy mindful meditation benefits.

Meditation stagesMeditation has several stages you can find

yourself ascending as your practice deepens.

1. MoralityAs mentioned earlier, morality is the foundation of meditation. You can learn morality by loving yourself, practising gratitude, and treating others

with compassion — almost the entire self-help universe is focused here so I won’t elaborate

further!

2. Concentration-based meditationOnce you’re no longer focused on yourself, you can start concentration-based meditation. The

main point of this stage is to train your mind to go from being scattered to focusing on an object

outside your mind such as your breath, an image, or mantra. Within six months of practising this form of meditation, you should be able to see

certain improvements in yourself.

3. Insight-based Meditation or Mindfulness Meditation

With a focused mind, you’ll be able to see reality as it is, just an arising and passing of waves of

thoughts. You’ll start noting thoughts as they come and go without getting attached to them. This is

the beginning of the journey of increased awareness of the insubstantiality of the human

experience.

4.EnlightenmentThe apex of the spiritual experience. When you’re at this stage, no sense of static self remains, the

“I,” will disappear. You’ll realise that there’s no permanent self at all. All that exists are waves of

consciousness and all sense of solidity or boundaries shatter completely.

In summary, meditate based on your life stage. As a beginner, concentration based meditation will be far more impactful than mindfulness meditation. And that’s fine — you’ll progress to more and more insight

based stages as your concentration gets deeper. Good luck!
