Toward large volume hydrogen utilization essential for decarbonization
Coal utilizations are facing to the strong against wind under the worldwide trend of decarbonization.
Hydrogen production from the coal linked to CCS will be a solution to the current situation.
Concept of “Brown coal derived hydrogen supply chain” is presented, in which large volume of CO2 free hydrogen is produced in the resource country and transported to consumer countries as liquefied hydrogen.
Kawasaki will continue to contribute to making coal carbon neutral through our liquefaction, transportation and storage technologies.

What is brown coal ?
It is young coal, plentiful, and reserved around the world
Water content is high at 50-60%
Since it ignites easily when dried, make it difficult to transport safely, and it can only be used for on-site power generation
“Unused resource" means "cheap" and "easy rights acquisition"
only for mining rights
Hydrogen production from brown coal is one of the most
affordable methods among the various production methods
