“Caraca, você viu o tamanho desse palco?” – manda a Amanda ao avistar pela primeira vez o Mainstage, num grito que chamou a atenção do grupo de garotos da frente. “A gente veio de Roraima só pra ver isso daqui pulando, e só vamos parar quando acabar!” disse Michel, puxando papo com as meninas cariocas com flores nos cabelos. “Quanta gente vindo de longe, hein? Ontem ficamos trocando ideia com um grupo de chilenos, eles estão com quatro barracas pertinho das nossas, no Dream Lodge”, disse Vivi – “Querem dar um pulo na Vila Belga com a gente? Vamos tomar uma gelada pra espantar o calor!” – “Só se for agora, vou ter tanto álcool no meu sangue que não vai ter carapanã doido de me picar!”, respondeu Arnaldo. – “Carapanã? Isso é como vocês chamam mosquito lá no Norte?” E as quatro amigas riram muito, antes de brindarem: “Ao carapanã!” São essas as pequenas diferenças culturais que fazem desse Brasil tão rico.

“Girl, did you see the size of that stage?” Amanda exclaims as she sees the Mainstage for the very first time; an exclamation that catches the attention of a group of guys standing ahead. “We came straight from Roraima just to jump up and down to this, and we’re only gonna stop when it’s over!” says Michael, chatting up the Rio de Janeiro girls with flowers in their hair. “So many people that came from far away… Yesterday we talked to a group of Chileans, they set up four tents right next to ours at the Dream Lodge,” says Vivi. “Do you guys want to hit the Belgian Village with us? We’re gonna have a cold one to drive off the heat!” “Absolutely! There’ll be so much alcohol in my blood that a carapanã would be nuts to try and bite me!” answers Arnaldo. “Carapanã? Is that what you call mosquitos up North?” And the four friends laugh heartily, before making a toast. “To the carapanã!” These are the small cultural differences that make a country like Brazil so rich.

BARBA, CABELO E BIGODE!Às vezes a ansiedade é tanta pra se chegar no festival, que é normal esquecer uma coisinha ou duas como, por exemplo, um barbeador pra manter o look impecável para os próximos dias. Se este é o seu caso, não esquente: a barbearia Cartola está à sua disposição no Marketplace pra te deixar “tinindo”! Segundo o Lucas, um dos barbeiros, os gringos buscam mais os cortes de cabelo, e os brasileiros aproveitam pra dar aquele tapa na barba. “Apesar do calor, ninguém pensa em tirar a barba não, ela veio pra ficar!” – avisa.

BEARD, HAIR AND MUSTACHE!Sometimes, excitement gets the best of us and it’s easy to forget a thing or two. Like a razor, for instance, which happens to be essential to maintain an impeccable look during the next few days. If that’s the case for you, worry no more: the Cartola barbershop is at your full disposal, ready to make you shine! According to Lucas, one of the barbers, the gringos usually ask for haircuts, while Brazilians take advantage of his presence to spruce up their beards. “In spite of the heat, no one even thinks about shaving off their beard. It’s here to stay!” he says.

COXINHA, A GRANDE RAINHAA padaria do Marketplace está sempre movimentada, especialmente na parte da manhã e no final da tarde. Daniel, que cuida do estabelecimento em Itu ao lado de seu pai e seu tio há 13 anos, disse que um dos itens mais buscados este ano é o suco de laranja natural, além do mix de laranja com açaí. Para forrar o estômago, o que os cidadãos de DreamVille buscam mesmo é ela: a única e inigualável COXINHA. “Os estrangeiros provam e se apaixonam. Afinal, não dá pra resistir a uma coxinha, né?” diz Daniel.

Daniel, who has overseen the establishment in Itu alongside his father and uncle for the past 13 years, says that one of the most sought-after items this edition is the natural orange juice, as well as the orange and açai blend. For the perfect snack, DreamVille citizens have one thing on their minds: the undisputable Coxinha. “Foreigners try it and fall in love. After all, no one can resist a coxinha,” says Daniel.

Esses paulistanos se conheceram no Tomorrowland belga de 2014, um deles inclusive pediu sua namorada em casamento lá! Esse ano eles retornam à Bélgica.

These guys from São Paulo became friends at the Belgian Tomorrowland in 2014, one of them even proposed to his girlfriend there! This year they’ll return to Belgium again.

Esse rapaz alemão com a camiseta do Brasil ajudou Rodrigo, de sunga logo cedo, a encontrar sua carteira e celular perdidos. “Eu não sei o que aconteceu ontem! Perdi minhas coisas e também a dignidade!”, conta Rodrigo, sem perder o bom humor. “Agora eu preciso aprender a beber”.

This German guy with a Brazilian shirt helped Rodrigo, who found himself in nothing but a speedo early in the morning, to find his missing wallet and mobile phone. “I don’t know what happened last night! I lost my stuff and also my dignity,” Rodrigo tells us, still in a

good mood. “Now I need to learn how to drink safely.”

Por vários anos, Wildstylez tem sido um nome de peso na cena hardstyle da Holanda e pelo mundo afora. Um ouvido desperto para melodias e um perspicaz senso de estilo consolidaram a sua reputação como produtor; já como artista, ele já se apresentou como convidado de honra em diversos espaços nos últimos tempos. Depois do Tomorrowland, ele parte direto para o Chile para o seu evento exclusivo em parceria com o MC Villain, o X-Qlusive! Antes de suas duas apresentações no festival, ele encontrou um tempinho para falar pra gente sobre seus amigos, música e fãs na América do Sul.

Joram, você tem duas performances agendadas no TML Brasil, para depois voar para o Chile para o seu próprio evento, o XQ. Como é a cena hardstyle e os fãs na América do Sul? “Os fãs sul-americanos são incríveis! A sua energia e dedicação são sensacionais. Mesmo considerando que a cena hardstyle ainda está crescendo, não acho que seja menor do que em outros lugares para onde já viajei, especialmente por conta de todo o carinho que recebemos dos fãs!”

Existem outros festivais/eventos Europeus que você adoraria ver com uma edição na América do Sul? “Fizemos o Defqon no Chile no ano passado e foi ótimo! Já toquei no Mysteryland também, mas eu curto todos os festivais. Principalmente quando abre o sol e as pessoas estão se divertindo – isso torna a vibe muito boa. Honestamente, na minha opinião não importa se é um festival europeu ou local. Eu gosto de ambos.”

Aqui no Brasil, você vai tocar depois do Nicky Romero, no palco Protocol, que é dele. Você conhece o Nicky bem, pessoalmente? Existem planos de colaborações musicais? “Sim, conheço ele pessoalmente porque ele é um dos meus grandes amigos e moramos na mesma cidade. Na verdade, eu fiz o remix de “Legacy” alguns anos atrás, que foi a faixa que ele fez com as Krewella, mas por agora, sem planos. Porém... nunca sabemos o que futuro nos reserva!”

Na Europa, o Brasil é famoso por seu extravagante Carnaval. Para finalizar, você pode contar para os nossos amigos brasileiros como é o Carnaval holandês? “Haha – é bem diferente! Acho que dá pra dizer que é uma galera se vestindo com roupas engraçadas e bebendo de tudo durante alguns dias.”

(Na verdade, Joram, é bem parecido!)

Joram, you’ve got 2 performances lined up at TML Brasil, only to go on to Chile for your own XQ. What are the South American hardstyle scene and fans like? “The South American fans are amazing! Their energy and dedication is awesome. Even though the hardstyle scene is still growing, I don’t feel like it’s smaller than in any other place I’ve traveled to, especially due to the love we get from all the fans!”

Are there any other European festivals/events you would love to see in a South American edition?“We have done Defqon in Chile last year and that was great. I’ve done Mysteryland before too, but I really enjoy all festivals. Especially when the sun is out and the people are enjoying themselves, it makes the vibe really good. Honestly, for me it doesn’t matter if it’s a festival from Europe or a local festival. I enjoy them both.”

Here in Brazil, you’re playing after Nicky Romero on his own Protocol stage. Do you know Nicky well personally? Are there plans for musical collaborations too?“Yes, I know him personally because he is one of my close friends and we live in the same town. Actually, I did the remix of “Legacy” a few years ago, which was the track he made with Krewella, but for now, no plans. But… you never know what the future might bring!”

In Europe, Brasil is famous for its extravagant carnival. To wrap up, could you tell our Brazilian friends what Dutch carnival is like? “Haha – it’s quite different! I guess you could basically say that it’s a lot of people dressing up funny and drinking a lot of booze for a few days.” (Actually, Joram, it’s quite similar!)

hardstyle scenes. A keen ear for melody and a subtle sense of

style have cemented his reputation as a producer, and as a performer

he’s been a welcome guest at all sorts of venues for years. And after Tomorrowland,

he’s headed straight to Chile for his and MC Villain’s own X-Qlusive event! Prior to his two

performances at Tomorrowland, the man himself found some time to tell us about his friends, music

and South American fans.

As condições meteorológicas estão altamente favoráveis neste fim de semana, conferindo uma atmosfera ainda mais intensa ao Tomorrowland Brasil 2016. Não bastassem os dias quentes e noites agradáveis com o resplandecente brilho da lua cheia, um fenômeno muito especial está acontecendo no período do festival para acrescentar ainda mais charme a esta experiência. A Chuva de Meteoros Liríadas vai riscar o céu do Hemisfério Sul – ela dura até o dia 25, mas especialmente nas noites de 21 e 22 de Abril, as condições para sua visibilidade são as melhores. Estrelas cadentes! Na verdade elas não são estrelas, mas poeira de um gigante. Os rastros do cometa Thatcher C/1861 G1 se materializam em estrelas cadentes que podem ser vistas a olho nu, na direção Norte. Um momento perfeito para reunir os novos e velhos amigos num lugar calmo (de preferência depois das últimas atrações do dia), deitar no chão e se perder olhando para o céu.

Meteorological conditions are highly favorable this weekend, granting an even starrier sky than expected to Tomorrowland. As if the hot days and pleasant nights in the glowing light of the full moon weren’t enough, an almost magical phenomenon will take place during the next two days to brighten up your life even further. The Lyrid meteor shower will cross the skies of the Southern Hemisphere, occurring until the 25th, but peaking on the 21st and 22nd of April; stars in your eyes! Or, actually, they’re not really stars, but stardust. Tiny pieces of the Thatcher C/1861 G1 comet’s tail will burn up into northbound shooting stars that can be seen with the naked eye. It’s the perfect time to invite longtime and recent friends to get together in a peaceful place (preferably after the last attractions of the day), lie down on the ground and lose yourselves in the moment while staring at the sky. And who knows – if we’re really lucky, the fireworks in the sky will join the stars we see on the Mainstage!

VOLKODER: RISING STARSalto é uma cidade paulista ao lado de Itu, terra do Tomorrowland Brasil. É lá que cresceu e vive Marcos Benedetti, o Volkoder, artista de destaque da cena nacional desde que emplacou tracks em selos bacanas como Hot Creations e Suara. Ele é uma das estrelas em ascensão a passar por nossos palcos mágicos – inclusive duas vezes pelo Mainstage –, e é o astro desse perfil.

Fale sobre esse momento tão especial de sua carreira.Estou onde nunca imaginei estar, fazendo algo totalmente diferente do que eu conhecia até então. Uma oportunidade única que agarrei e não quero largar. Toco há 10 anos, e onde moro não havia muitas festas. Ficava em casa no fim de semana produzindo música, e mandava os sons para os selos. Depois de um tempo os caras que gosto começaram a tocar minhas músicas e isso foi fundamental pra me fazer criar mais música e tocar profissionalmente.

Quando você percebeu que sua nome estava em ascensão?Há uns 3 anos, quando minhas músicas entraram no top 5 do Beatport. Quando vi meu nome junto de Guetta e Avicii, tive noção da proporção que as coisas tomaram. Foi uma surpresa, principalmente o suporte dos DJs. Juntou tudo isso, tinha tudo para dar certo e está dando!

O que proporciona para um DJ tocar no Tomorrowland?É um divisor de águas. Muita gente não me conhecia, mesmo aqui na região de São Paulo não sabiam que eu era daqui. Com o festival, ganhei um público maior. Mas com isso também veio a responsabilidade de fazer esse público feliz!

Quem são as estrelas que te inspiram hoje na música eletrônica?Um dos ídolos que admiro, por sua música e por ter dado um pontapé na minha carreira ao tocar minhas tracks, é o Jamie Jones. Caras como Luciano e Marco Carola também me dão bons feedbacks. Hoje somos próximos, e é nesse meio que quero estar.

Salto is a town in São Paulo, next to Itu, homeland of Tomorrowland Brasil. And it’s where Marcos Benedetti, aka Volkoder, was born and raised to be an outstanding artist in the national scene, releasing tracks with renowned labels like Hot Creations and Suara. He’s one of the meteors that have hit our magical stages (including the Mainstage, twice!) and the star of this profile.

Tell us about this special moment in your career. “I’m at a place that I never imagined, taking part in something that is beyond my wildest dreams. This is a unique opportunity that I grabbed and that I never want to let go. I’ve been playing for 10 years, and where I live, there weren’t many parties back then. I used to hang out at home during the weekends, producing and sending my tracks to the labels. After a while, the guys I like started playing my songs and I gained more visibility in Brazil.”

When did you realize your name was in demand? “About three years ago, when my songs reached Beatport’s Top 5. When I saw my name next to Guetta and Avicii, I realized the proportions things had taken. It was all a surprise, especially the level of support from the DJs. Everything came together, it was meant to work out and it has!”

What does playing at Tomorrowland entail for a DJ?“It’s a fine line. A lot of people didn’t know who I was; even here, in the São Paulo region, they didn’t know I was originally from here. With the festival, I got a bigger audience. Now I have to work hard to keep them happy!”

Who are the stars that inspire you today in electronic music? “One of the idols that I admire, because of his music and because he kickstarted my career by playing my tracks, is Jamie Jones. Guys like Luciano and Marco Carola also give me great feedback. We’re pretty close today, and that’s exactly where I want to be.”

A classic Brazilian sandwich, carne louca is the right kind of sustenance for those who know that an empty stomach won’t stand here at Tomorrowland. “The sandwich has protein, carbohydrates, shredded meat, tomato sauce, onions and peppers,” explains Leandro, the stand’s manager.

CONE MEXICANOOye! Todo mundo sabe das delícias mexicanas, mas aqui no Tomorrowland o chef Ricardo de León sugere o exclusivo cone recheado: “Ele tem iscas de carne mexicana, calabresa, guacamole, sour cream e pimenta jalapeño, todas recheadas numa tortilla de trigo frita”.

¡Oye! Everyone knows about Mexican delicacies, but here at Tomorrowland, chef Ricardo de León suggests the exclusive stuffed cone: “The cones include Mexican beef baits, pepperoni, guacamole, sour cream and jalapeño pepper, all stuffed in a fried wheat tortilla.”

O Tomorrowland é uma festa não só para o espírito, mas também para o estômago. E um dos momentos mais gostosos dessa mágica experiência é uma refeição no Rancho da Picanha, churrascaria que há 20 anos alimenta gerações aqui em Itu (SP).

André Fioravante, o churrasqueiro responsável pelas grelhas do Rancho e aqui no Tomorrowland, revela o segredo da suculenta picanha oferecida no festival: uma mistura dos sabores e expertise brasileiras com carnes vindas do Uruguai ou Argentina, num autêntico churrasco sul-americano!

“Nossa picanha é maturada, e dependendo da safra ela vem de um dos países”, ele conta. “A carne é embalada e refrigerada à vácuo, e começa a ‘curar’ sozinha, ficando mais macia e suculenta, o gosto mais acentuado”.

E os acompanhamentos? “Frango de leite”, como André lista (o famoso galeto), além de coisas “bem brasileiras” como mandioca e polenta fritas, torresmo, salada, cebolete e farofa. “Os clientes geralmente pedem a picanha ao ponto, que é o ideal: ela fica suculenta por dentro, douradinha e solta aquele caldo gostoso”, completa André, que sugere vinho Malbec, cervejas de trigo e escuras para beber junto. Estamos vendo sua água na boca, não babe em nosso jornal!

Milov, da Eslováquia, sempre tinha ouvido falar da picanha, e dividiu com a gente seu primeiro momento frente a essa especiaria sul-americana.

Tomorrowland is a party that doesn’t just feed the soul, but also the stomach. And one of the most delicious moments of this magical experience is a meal at Rancho da Picanha, a steakhouse that has been nourishing generations here in Itu for twenty years.

André Fioravante, the barbecue man in charge of Rancho’s grills here at Tomorrowland reveals the secret of the juicy rump steak on offer: a blend of flavor and Brazilian expertise, with red meat from Uruguay or Argentina, in an authentic South American churrasco!

“Our rump cover is matured and, depending on the harvest, comes from one of those countries,” he states. “The meat is packaged and vacuum refrigerated. It starts to ‘curate’ on its own, becoming softer and juicier, with an intensified flavor.”

What about the side dishes? “Milk chicken”, as André mentioned (the famous spring chicken), as well as other extremely Brazilian dishes, such as mandioca (manioc) and fried polenta, pork cracklings, salad, cebolete (onion dip) and farofa (bread crumb-based Brazilian side dish). “Customers usually order medium rare rump steak, which is the ideal option: the steak remains juicy inside, brown outside, and releases a tasty broth ,” says André. He also recommends a Malbec, a wheaty and dark beer, to pair with the steak. Hey – we can see the water running into your mouth, please don’t drool on our newspaper!

Imagine crescer em uma família moderna de músicos onde seus pais, além de DJs, também são os criadores de um dos festivais mais tradicionais do país – o Universo Paralello que acontece a cada 2 anos no litoral da Bahia. Imaginou? Então você começou a entender um pouquinho mais sobre o sucesso monstruoso do brasiliense Alok Petrillo.

Parece que foi o destino, mas existem mais ingredientes nessa receita. Cercado pela música eletrônica em vários momentos da vida, Alok começou a se apresentar com apenas 12 anos de idade ao lado de seu irmão gêmeo Bhaskar – que surpreendentemente também se apresenta na noite de hoje! Após a mudança do irmão para Londres, Alok continuou trabalhando duro para amadurecer seu cunho artístico e misturar tudo aquilo que havia vivido durante todos estes anos. O resultado é esse fenômeno que, em apenas dois anos, transformou a forma com que o Brasil – e o mundo – vêem a música eletrônica produzida por aqui.

2016 também foi o ano da internacionalização de sua carreira, com turnês pela Ásia e Africa do Sul, que receberam o artista que emplacou o 44º lugar no Top 100 da revista DJ Mag de braços abertos. Picture growing up in a modern family of musicians where your parents, in addition to being DJs, are also the creators of one of the most traditional festivals in the country – Universo Parallelo, which takes place very two years on the coast of Bahia. Are you there yet? Then you’ve just come to understand a little bit more about the massive success of Brasília native, Alok Petrillo.

It may seem like destiny, but there are more ingredients to this recipe. Surrounded by electronic music during several episodes of his life, Alok began performing at the early age of 12 next to his twin brother, Bhaskar – who, remarkably, will also perform tonight! After his brother’s move to London, Alok continued working hard to mature his artistic hallmark and to combine everything that he had experienced throughout the years. The result is this phenomenon that, in just two years, changed the way that Brazil and the world view electronic music produced around here.

Today, Alok and his Brazilian Bass have become true export products of Brazilian dance music, and like every great visionary, the DJ has put together a team that believes in and supports this idea. With the launch of his own label, UPClub Records, the young DJ partnered up with several talented producers and wisely handpicked noteworthy artists in the scene. These include Fractall, Illusionize, Dazzo and the many others that have boarded this powerful train driven by Alok.

The year 2016 also marked a surge in his international career, with tours in Asia and South Africa; locations that welcomed the #44 artist on DJ Mag’s Top 100 with open arms.
